I'm considering doing a Mon-Fri backpacking hike from Rock Harbor Sept 17-21. What are the rules/regs concerning where I can hang my hammock ... does it have to be in designated camping areas, or can I do it anywhere in the backcountry?

I was able to get a room at Ryden's for Sept 20, thanks.

I'll need a motel the night I arrive in Grand Portage (Sat Sept 20) before taking the boat to Windigo the next morning. Most of the nearby motels seem to be in Grand Marais. Among those in Grand Portage are Grand Portage Lodge and Ryden's Cafe/Motel.

Would you recommend either, or something else ...
