Re: Three people evacuated

Wow, great video to see them in action. Glad everyone was safe, thanks to their effort.

Does this helicopter have to hit a refueler after the trip out to the island, loiter time, and then the flight to Duluth?

Re: Rock of Ages lighthouse restoration 2018

The Rock of Ages camera is offline for the rest of the season. We've got some good lessons-learned to try and improve it for next year. Stay tuned!

Re: TR: 7/14-7/19 2018 – Canoe paddle of the NE corner

Today we spell redemption "T-O-M." *drops mic* Glad you got after it. I had to Google "paraskevidekatriaphobia," so thanks for keeping that word in there to keep me engaged reading. You had a first seeing a dog on the island, and wouldn't you consider seeing a Cayman-flagged superyacht in Rock Harbo...

Re: [Q] Staying logged in on Google Chrome

BIG UPDATE: After playing with the board's cookie settings and some experimenting in Google Chrome, I found that Google Chrome was redirecting me to the un-encrypted (HTTP) version of the web page . The cookie is set to only store your continious login if you connect to the website via a secure con...

Re: [Q] Staying logged in on Google Chrome

Thank you for the feedback...and keep it coming. I'm be paying attention to dcclark and thesneakymonkey's issues as I tweaked a LOT of board settings since you last dumped your cookies...so hopefully the issue goes away.

[Q] Staying logged in on Google Chrome

I've been noticing a lot of problems with Google Chrome and the forums recently. Mostly, I can't stay logged in (I close the browser and have to log back in every time). I don't see the problem in Internet Explorer.

Is anyone else having this problem in Chrome? Or in other browsers?

Re: The must-see things?

I hope you just spend time relaxing and enjoying nature. 114 miles in seven days seems for me wouldn't leave me a lot of down time to just post up on a rock and enjoy the quiet.

Re: Weather forecast

The marine forecast is also pretty helpful depending on where you'll be on the island...especially if you're by the lake. You have to do a lot of interpretation of it...e.g., "20-20 knot winds, high waves == windy and cold," but it's generally viewed as reliable. NWS marine forecast: https://www.ndb...

Re: Rock of Ages lighthouse restoration 2018

The camera is stuck again. The internet connection at the light is difficult, as is keeping the device powered (there's only solar power at the light). I'm going to see if I can get this week's work crew to get it up and running again.

Re: Best cell signal at West end of island?

I have found that AT&T provides the best signal in the Barnum/Washington Island/Rock of Ages area. * At Barnum/Washington Islands, I can get one bar of 4G from AT&T, and multiple bars of 4G from ROGERS (Canadian provider). * At the Rock of Ages lighthouse, I can get three bars of 4G from AT&T OR ROG...

Re: Fly and Skeeter check

I was in the Washington Harbor area last week and bugs were non-existent. This doesn't mean it will be the same way when you're there, but it bodes well for your visit.

I always bring a head net and bug spray. It's not a lot to carry for the benefit it provides should you need it.

Re: Rock of Ages lighthouse restoration 2018

We were forced to depart the island rather quickly today due to rapidly deteriorating weather. So unfortunately I wasn't able to find tune the internet or the webcam. Hopefully next week's work crew will be able to make some adjustments.
