Re: Rain jacket or windbreaker replacement

I'm looking to replace it with something that will do the same, or possibly going with something that'll keep me dry in a steadier rain. If you want another jacket that will last 20+ years, I recommend the Arc'Teryx Beta . Yep, it's wicked expensive, but it'll last forever and Arc'Teryx stands behi...

I mean, it's in your forum name, right? :D

I've heard someone from the park service pronounce it "Oh-zah-gah-tang"

Farewall, Windigo...hello Ozaagaatang

I recently learned from the National Park Service that they intend to rename Windigo to Ozaagaatang. This renaming came after the NPS' partnership with the Grand Portage band of Ojibwe. Ozaagaatang means "where the light shines outward." Windigo has a negative connotation in Ojibwe, and th...

No plans to replace that, that I've heard. I don't think it needs it, that dock is pretty burly.

The Ranger III in Superior, WI

I drove by the boat yards the other day and saw the Ranger III hanging out there. Snapped a few pics, then I found this one on Facebook. It's stupendous: 395124740_10230869324179975_7658252105556394093_n.jpg Credit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/268456833667668/?multi_permalinks=1727208367792500&a...

Re: Midwest Mountaineering (Minneapolis) - Going out of Business

MWM closing is sad. It's also not surprising. We live in a weird time, but I think a store like MWM is needed again. The retail industry seems like it's circular (like most things): 1. Pre-internet era: you go to a specialty shop to learn about gear from an expert 2. Internet era: you Google everyth...

Here are a few other cameras at Ojibway you can check out... they are not linked on the park's website yet, so the forum members here get the sneak peek preview. Same connectivity as the SW viewing camera so subject to the same limitations/outages. https://www.nps.gov/webcams-isro/northshore.jpg ht...
