Re: gravity filter recommendation
The one problem I've found, at least with the Platypus, is that after long term storage (from August to May) it can become extremely slow. I can sometimes coax fast filtering back out of it, but after a few years they get quite slow again, even with little use.
Are you doing sanitizing and ...

Re: gravity filter recommendation
It works well for me and has a decent flow rate. But, I also keep up on the maintenance of my Sawyer Squeeze by backflushing and disinfecting it after every trip.
I've never used a gravity water filter. I have a couple of questions...
1. How long does it take to filter 1L of water?
2. What is ...

Re: gravity filter recommendation
In such a system, what's the advantage of a Squeeze versus a Mini? According to the internet....

What's your method for disinfecting?
I like the idea of squeeze systems (because I don't like the taste of chemical treatments ...

Re: gravity filter recommendation
I came up with a setup for my Sawyer Squeeze years ago that I really like. I bought a CNOC Vecto bag and connected a piece of flexible hose to an adapter that screws onto the "clean end" of the Sawyer Squeeze. I tied a piece of Zing-It to the top part of the Vecto bag so I can hang it from a branch ...

Re: Trip Report - Feldtmann Loop, June 2025
Awesome trip report, except for the mosquito swarms. ;)
I did the same loop two years ago in May with two of my friends. No mosquitos but cooler temps and quite a bit of wind the first day.
We never saw a moose, but we thoroughly enjoyed spending a night at Hugnnin Cove. My one friend (who had ...

Re: Updates: Two campers found dead on IR
This article seems to indicate why very little info is being doled out, especially if the FBI is involved.
"In email to the Free Press, Hall said the FBI routinely assists law enforcement partners upon request, however it does not necessarily result in the FBI opening an investigation.

If you'd like to see a different perspective of our trip, check out my friend's YouTube video. Dane (featheredprop) has a lot of good content and a creative flair with his backpacking videos.

Re: TR 5/24/23 - 5/28/23 Feldtmann Loop
Thanks for the great video trip report! But no moose?!? Or just didn't make the video? They were all over the place when I was at Feldtmann the same time of year.
No. Unfortunately, not a single moose for us during the entire trip! The bummer was that after we returned I read dcclark's TR and ...

Re: TR 5/24/23 - 5/28/23 Feldtmann Loop
Nice video! It was great to meet you guys, and I think of that visit around the Siskiwit fire ring as a highlight of our trip too.
Also, I've never seen anybody make a fire as fast as you three! It was like watching a dedicated fire-starting team. I guess the cold and wind helped make that happen ...
