Re: angleworm lake, or other backcountry recommendations.

For anyone interested in visiting Angleworm Lake: Near the middle of the lake, off of the south side of the greenstone trail, there is a noticeably more open (much less densely forested) slab of rock that is at least a couple hundred feet wide which gives you a pretty open shot south toward the lake...

angleworm lake, or other backcountry recommendations.

I've seen mention of backcountry camping at Angleworm Lake. Any tips on getting there?

Also, if you would like to reveal any other personally favored backcountry camping areas, please inform.

Thanks!!!!

Re: kayak trip possable?

maybe consider some kind of flotation for the bow? (air bladder or dry bag) maybe overkill, but i think it's wise to have going solo

Re: Rock Harbor to Little Todd and back in 4 nights

we went with itinerary #2 however reversed the loop to save the only tent-only site (lane cove) for (fingers crossed at the time) better/drier weather than what it was upon our arrival. the weather cleared after day 2 and it was an incredible trip. I would highly recommend the loop for anyone lookin...

Definitely doable, I did it a couple of weeks ago. It's a long day, but lots of great views!

Re: any volunteers?

hm. well, that's a little bit discouraging, hopefully you'll hear something. let me know if you do and remember to.

I was thinking at least trail crew would be not so competitive, but perhaps there are more people out there willing to bust their a$$ for free than I first imagined.....

good luck

any volunteers?

Has anyone here volunteered a summer on Isle Royale before?

I'm interested in volunteering next summer and curious as to how competitive different positions might be. I am also curious to hear anything anyone would be willing to share about their experience volunteering.

Cheers

Re: CAMP FIRES: looking for a definitive answer

Mike T, thanks for the cool chart.

Now I've gotten conflicting answers about Chippewa Harbor though. Earlier in the thread you can see Tom believes there are actually individual fire rings at Chippewa.

Re: CAMP FIRES: looking for a definitive answer

thanks again ALL. I found that the wikitravel page for Isle Royale, along with other details, mentions specifically for each campsite if there is a community fire ring or "fire rings" (meaning separate rings for individual sites) seems to be accurate as far as I can tell, based on info I h...

Day 1 - Rock to Lane Cove (half day) Day 2 - Lane Cove to McCargoe Day 3 - McCargoe to Chippewa Day 4 - Chippewa to Daisy Day 5 - Daisy to Rock (half day) How does that sound? I was thinking that subbing Daisy for Lane...

Re: CAMP FIRES: looking for a definitive answer

Thanks everybody. So, Little Todd and Chippewa definitely have 'private' fire rings (NICE!)

Island Mine and Malone are a 'maybe'.

Does anyone else have any info out there?

Thank you

Rock Harbor to Little Todd and back in 4 nights

Is this possible/enjoyable, or am I dreaming?

I'm thinking:

Day 1 - Rock Harbor to Moskey Basin (half day)
Day 2 - Moskey to Hatchet Lake
Day 3 - Hatchet to Little Todd
Day 4 - Little Todd to Chickenbone West
Day 5 - Chickenbone to Rock Harbor (half day)

Doable?? Worth it??

Thanks everybody!!
