Re: TR - 8/23 to 8/27/2013 Rock Harbor Area (First Timer)

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I can't wait to go back. As far as the Rangers going to Lane Cove, I believe they make that trip by boat. The travel blogger I ran into at Ojibway Tower said he was awakened out of sleep by a Ranger looking for his permit. That Ranger, he said, arrived by ...

Compact, lightweight stove suggestion

I got a lot of information from these boards, so I thought I might share something I found. It's the Stever Stove. You can read about it on this forum thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431851 The stove weighs less than an ounce, but is very durable. It is an alcohol stove and ...

Re: TR - 8/23 to 8/27/2013 Rock Harbor Area (First Timer)

Day 4 dawned at Daisy Farm. I had packed up most everything the night before. I was so shaped by the heat of the days that I wanted to leave at first light and get most/all of the way to Three Mile before the sun got too high in the sky. Even in just the 2 previous hikes, I had become more skilled ...

Re: TR - 8/23 to 8/27/2013 Rock Harbor Area (First Timer)

I left Rock Harbor on Day 1 with 2 32oz bottles of water, and a 70oz camelbak. All full. This contributed to my weight. I did not have the 32oz Nalgenes for my test hike and had water to spare when the hike was done. I knew weight was a problem at this point. So, I figured I would make the next hike ...

TR - 8/23 to 8/27/2013 Rock Harbor Area (First Timer)

First, a little background: Let me start by saying that I am crazy. I have never been to Isle Royale. I was looking for a good motorcyle tour around Lake Michigan when my eyes wandered North and I spotted Isle Royale. I figured, why not? I had some extra vacation time that I needed to burn. I ...

Re: Trip 5/27/13-6/1/13 LC-CW-DF-RH

I like to get out early and do my relaxing at my days destination. I generally want to leave a little time for a short day hike to explore the area after a good rest.

Re: Sawyer Squeeze @REI for $31

Awesome, sgatz! I was really wondering if you had to squeeze the Squeeze, or if you could just hang it and let it drip.

How long did it take to filter 1 dirty bag using gravity?

Re: Sawyer Squeeze @REI for $31

Thanks for the welcome, JerryB. I am a total noobie at Backpacking, and probably a novice-level camper, so having a site like this to reference when getting involved in Backpacking is a real Godsend! I think I would be using the Sawyer as a primary filtration system on solor adventures. The boiling ...

Re: Sawyer Squeeze @REI for $31

I noticed the Sawyer Point One Squeeze filter is $31.11 on Amazon right now. I've had it on my wish list for a couple of days, and when it dropped $10 to this, I had to jump on it. Question: Do you guys typically carry a backup water filtration device? This is my first post! I've been lurking for ...
