I have an idea. I have a new inflatable stand-up paddleboard. It's 22 lbs, but folds into a bag around the size of a 50L pack. I'm trying to figure out if I can hike in, maybe to Moskey Basin, then paddle across the interior lakes. It's like portaging, but the paddleboard collapses small.

Well, I'll never swim there again :shock:
I was up in Maine last year swimming in a remote lake. We were all having fun until someone had a leech latch on. You should have seen how fast we walked on water to get out of there. :oops:

Thanks for all the tips. I am comfortable with the rescue maneuvers, as I have a habit of crashing nearly any craft (helck, I managed to flip over a dog-sled recently), and paddling multiple miles and hours. Thanks for the advice. It's nice to hear this isn't a crazy itinerary. Maybe I can day trip in McCargoe in the morning before the Voyageur arrives too. I could try to sprint to Todd Harbor and back
