Re: Pre-Taping Feet?
I talked to someone on a long distance hike - not Isle Royale - that taped his feet like that. He swore by it. He tried to talk me in to trying it but I have sensitive skin so the whole tape thing is risky for me. He ended up with 0 blisters and I had 6 or 7 I think. Seems like it might be ...

What was your prompt? While not amazing poetry, it did capture a few things about Isle Royale. I especially like that it ended with 'return again and again' as so many do!

Re: Have u ever met nicer folks, then at ISRO?
I haven't figured out if it's that the best people go to Isle Royale or if it's that Isle Royale brings out the best in people, but it's a good thing either way!

Re: renting boats v. water taxis
My last trip (2019) the first moose I saw was on the Tobin Harbor Trail (at the shoreline near the trail to be more specific) shortly before the turn toward Suzy's Cave. This was in late afternoon as I had arrived on the Ranger III. That's an easy enough trail (easier than the Rock Harbor one for ...

Re: Soap, shampoo, toothpaste
I use the Anti Gravity Gear water bag for bathing. I put water in it and take it away from the water source. You can set it down and though it will flatten out like a pancake, it will still hold your water. Or you can hang it to make it more bucket-like. Then you can use your eco-friendly soap or ...

Re: One thing you wish you knew...
On my first trip I wish I had known that it's not unusual to get stuck on the island an extra day due to weather & waves, and that it may not be possible to contact family on the mainland to let them know. It will save a lot of worry if they understand it's a possibility that you may not return when ...

You do have to be logged in for it to appear. This make sense as you should be logged in to register a 'like' but I just spent WAY to long trying to figure out where it was before I realized I wasn't logged in. That's an observation not a complaint - I like the feature!

Re: One word for Isle Royale National Park
I agree that I wouldn't want cell service available. I would be tempted to check-in, which would not be the same experience as telling everyone "Sorry, I'll be off the grid." Even if I managed to resist the temptation, it would still force me to think about it. I'd much rather it stayed wild. And ...

Re: TR: 7/12-7/24 2019 End to end loop, Rock-Windigo Minong, Windigo-Rock Greenstone
I am perfectly willing to accept that it's a trail curse and not clumsiness:) I think episode 7 is my favorite (up next for you!) - the storm at Little Todd. I did just put up episode 8 today - more on the Minong. It turns out these videos are a lot of work and are taking longer than I ever expected ...

Re: Lake Desor - How is it pronounced?
So what I'm hearing is there's no real consensus so no one will harass me too badly for mispronouncing it! Which is cool, I'll just act like however I want to say it is the correct way:)

Re: Lake Desor - How is it pronounced?
I didn't know it was named after a person. It turns out the pronunciation suffers from the same issue as Isle Royale. His full name was Pierre Jean Édouard Desor. While he was apparently German Swiss, that is a very French name! He probably called it Eel Roy-ale, ha ha. Thanks for the help!

Lake Desor - How is it pronounced?
I can't decide if the emphasis is on the first syllable or second. And does the "s" make an "s" sound or a "z" sound? Thanks for any assistance!

He was part of the Rock Harbor group, and I think he stayed at Daisy Farm. I don't know exactly what he did, but it seems like it was building and/or repairing things, possibly trail clearing. I know he wasn't there for the fires.
