Re: TR: 7/12-7/24 2019 End to end loop, Rock-Windigo Minong, Windigo-Rock Greenstone

I am perfectly willing to accept that it's a trail curse and not clumsiness:) I think episode 7 is my favorite (up next for you!) - the storm at Little Todd. I did just put up episode 8 today - more on the Minong. It turns out these videos are a lot of work and are taking longer than I ever expected...

Re: Lake Desor - How is it pronounced?

So what I'm hearing is there's no real consensus so no one will harass me too badly for mispronouncing it! Which is cool, I'll just act like however I want to say it is the correct way:)

Re: Lake Desor - How is it pronounced?

I didn't know it was named after a person. It turns out the pronunciation suffers from the same issue as Isle Royale. His full name was Pierre Jean Édouard Desor. While he was apparently German Swiss, that is a very French name! He probably called it Eel Roy-ale, ha ha. Thanks for the help!

Lake Desor - How is it pronounced?

I can't decide if the emphasis is on the first syllable or second. And does the "s" make an "s" sound or a "z" sound? Thanks for any assistance!

He was part of the Rock Harbor group, and I think he stayed at Daisy Farm. I don't know exactly what he did, but it seems like it was building and/or repairing things, possibly trail clearing. I know he wasn't there for the fires.

I'm glad you liked them! Papua New Guinea is a long story, but here's a Wikipedia article about the trail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapa_Kapa_Trail From Wikipedia: "Because the track is very steep, difficult, and unimproved, it has been hiked by very few non-native individuals." So, yeah, I'm o...

Video trip report! I'm resurrecting my old trip report thread because I've been putting together a series of videos of the trip. If you're stuck in quarantine and have already binged everything worth watching on Netflix, you can check them out and imagine yourself on the island instead of trapped in...

Good choice - and so much better than Boaty McBoatface.

You can post more pictures in the replies.
Is there a trick to it? I tried dragging photos into a reply, but it still says the quota is full.

Re: TR: 7/12-7/24 2019 End to end loop, Rock-Windigo Minong, Windigo-Rock Greenstone

I was wondering about the stretch of Minong Ridge between Windigo and NLD-- How long did that take you? Did you happen to see anyone that was backcountry camping? 7 hours of hiking (I'm not a very fast hiker). I didn't see anyone backcountry camping at all. It's a long hike, but not that difficult ...

TR: 7/12-7/24 2019 End to end loop, Rock-Windigo Minong, Windigo-Rock Greenstone

Trip Report - End to end loop trip on the Minong and the Greenstone After going on a very challenging and hiking adventure, I found myself longing for a new adventure. I decided to return to Isle Royale, having made one other trip there in 2015. I wanted to do an end-to-end trip, having never been ...

Re: End to end loop hike

Resurrecting this old thread to say I DID THIS! Thank you all for the great information. I went from "Is this possible?" to "I think I could do this" to "Here I go!" I'll put together a full trip report in a bit - I just got home yesterday. My route: DF, MC, TH, LT, NLD, WC, WC (0), SLD, HL, MB, TM,...

Re: End-to-end loop trip - itinerary feedback

I have my ferry tickets already, so I will have to stick to the days I have planned. This started out as an end-to-end trip where I was trying to choose between the Minong or the Greenstone, and somehow ended up deciding to do both. I had a really big adventure last year and started planning this tr...

End-to-end loop trip - itinerary feedback

Just looking for some feedback - does this look like a good plan, nothing too crazy? Rock Harbor (via Ranger III) > Daisy Farm Daisy Farm > McCargoe Cove McCargoe > Todd Harbor Todd > Little Todd Little Todd > N. Lake Desor N. Desor > Windigo/Washington Creek, resupply via Voyageur REST DAY! Washing...

Re: End to end loop hike

So what I'm hearing is this should be possible to do and hopefully not too difficult! After reading the blog posts, I realize the itinerary I was thinking of is much easier than his was, and I'm planning on more days. I don't think I could handle 20 mile days. So this sounds doable - thanks for the ...
