Re: Ways to improve the forums...

Would it be possible to add more than three photos per post? I've only ever been able to upload three post post and have to either blow up the comments to get all of them in or put a bunch of external links.

TR: 6/10-6/18 2016 Rock to McCargoe and Back

Apologies for all the links to my website. I was only able to upload a couple photos for the post. Day 1 We left home for Copper Harbor on June 10 and arrived 13 hours later just in time to experience a phenomenal sunset over the calm waters of Copper Harbor and Lake Superior. On the way we made a s...

Re: Ways to improve the forums...

The one suggestion that came to mind was the opening a link in a new tab/window but since that's been covered I'd like to continue the trend of big thank you's. These forums have been invaluable in research and planning for Isle Royale. This is a great site. Great job getting it to where it is now

Re: PBS Nature program on moose

That was a great watch. Fantastic cinematography indeed. It was really cool how after staying with the moose for a while they began to be more comfortable with him.

Re: Timing Question

I would go first week of June too. We were there June 10-18 last year. No flies but there were mosquitoes in the thicker woods. Only needed bug nets once between Moskey and Ritchie. Spray your clothes with permethrin before you go and the mosquitoes won't even bother you. Weather-wise it rained once...

Re: Michigan's Isle Royale snags top spot on National Parks list

I saw this earlier and like a lot of the commenters on it, I don't know how I feel about it. Yay for getting more people to the island to experience the grandeur, nay for getting more people there in the future. Not that there will ever be a ton of people that visit compared to the other parks, but ...

Really looking forward to seeing it. The cinematography looked fantastic in the trailers.

Re: Dream Trip

Wow that sure does cover a ton of the island, Ed. That would definitely be a lot easier not having to carry so much food everywhere. Only thing that jumps out to me about it is that a lot of the trip depends on making it to specific points by a certain time, like meeting the voyageur at Belle Isle m...

Re: Dream Trip

Capt Don of the Voyageur II also rents canoes, so I'd talk to them too.
Just checked the Voyageur II website. Canoe rentals are $175 for a week so that's an option. http://www.grand-isle-royale.com/rates.asp

Re: Dream Trip

I'm green with envy. I know how you feel, Hooky. When I got news that this could possibly happen I became giddy with happiness. Been trying to find the best route to see everything for months. I'd probably go by water from Houghton to Rock Harbor, but if you can do it via land, more power to you. :...

Dream Trip

I might get the chance to have three weeks off this summer to spend on the island. Three whole weeks! I figure if I'm going to spend that much time on the island it would make sense to see as much as possible, so here's my (ambitious) dream trip plan: First Part - by land 1. Houghton to Rock Harbor,...

Re: Favorite scenic view, spot, lookout

I think Treeplanter and I have visited the same ridge; it's not quite half way between the mine and the camp, if memory serves. You'll somewhat get to a clearing/opening and see the Minong is following along the lower portion of the ridge. You can climb up. I'm pretty sure you can also get to this ...

Re: Favorite scenic view, spot, lookout

Probably 1/4 - 1/2 mile west of the campground, you come upon a 40 - 50 foot rock ridge running immediately adjacent to the trail along the north side. I'm not sure I remember that ridge. Was it before or after the mines? We were moving pretty quick on the way back from Otter Lake so I'm not surpri...

Re: Favorite scenic view, spot, lookout

Sunsets from Mount Ojibway, although the walk "home" in the dark can be a little rough.
Anyone have experiences watching the sunrise from Ojibway? I was thinking of leaving Daisy around 4am and getting some Milky Way and sunrise shots from there too.
