Re: LighterPack final shakedown

I've used the X-Mid for 2 one-nighter trips and I absolutely love it so far. It's crazy how easy it is to set up, the inner is actually pretty big for a 1p tent, & the vestibules are huge. My friend & I waited out a hail storm with high winds and a quick, shitty pitch and it held up very well. Only ...

Re: LighterPack final shakedown

Nice. We have a lot of the same (or similar) gear. Let me know how the XMid works out. I'm using same tent for my 5 day trip in August. Did you forget tent stakes?

Re: Trip Planning Web Page

I can look into that. I was concerned about having too much text to fit on a screen. I have a wide monitor. I had to keep reminding myself that just because it all fits on my screen, it may not on other's.

Trip Planning Web Page

Some time ago Ingo posted a trip planning spreadsheet here: https://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=19685#p19685 I found it very useful. But wile planning for my trip in August, I thought it might be nice to have a clickable web page version. Then I though I could actually do this as I know a ...

Re: [Tool] Isle Royale Trip Planner Spreadsheet

I have started a clickable web page. The first version will have buttons, not a map. I will post when I have a functioning version.

Re: [Tool] Isle Royale Trip Planner Spreadsheet

I've used Javascript to program interactive web pages. If I were to do it it would be text based and very primitive looking. But I do like the spreadsheet is set up to hike from node to node. That is a logical way to plan. I was wondering where all the mileages came from. There is more detail there ...

Re: [Tool] Isle Royale Trip Planner Spreadsheet

The problem with the NG map is my hike will cover just a small percent of it. I think I will print out some custom maps from CalTopo and put the in a large baggie. As for the planning tool, I know the trails pretty well but still found ithe spreadsheet a bit confusing to use. A web page interface ...

Re: What are you spending your 2023 REI dividend on?

There was a note in my dividend mailing about a coupon to come soon, but I never saw it. Alas.

What is the 20% coupon you speak of?

Copper Harbor Parking

I'm planning a 4 night backpacking trip for summer. I will be driving up from southern MI so I have a choice between the Ranger and the Queen. I'm leaning toward the Queen as it gives more flexibility in schedule and essentially one extra day since it arrives earlier and departs later in the day. I ...

Re: CalTopo Base Map of Isle Royale Features

I used CalTopo maps at the Grand Canyon last year. I didn't bring my phone on that trip so I just printed custom maps. I like the way you can zoom on any area you want and print exactly what you need vs buying a big map that show 20 times more area than I can co er in a few days. I'm already ...

I got 25$ to spend and will apply it to shoes. I have Oboz shoes and Brooks runners. Both need replacing.

Re: Comprehensive descriptions of trails and campsites?

I was just reading my DuFresne guide book. It is a first edition, first printing from my first trip in 1984. I'm planning a second trip for this summer. I'm thinking not much has changed with regard to trails. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Re: Moose conference in Grand Portage

I hiked Pictured Rocks with a friend who is a retired state DNR Moose biologist. While walking along the cliff edge, he stopped and carefully walked to the edge and peered down the cliff. I asked why. He said he was looking for dead moose. He points out the tree (I think it was a Mountain Ash ...
