Re: Isle Royale Visitor Statistics 1940-2019
It's interesting looking at both reports -- it seems the first report counts total number of visitors, the report you posted seems to count overnight stays. I do love that RV line!

Re: Places to get equipment?
You might also try Craigslist -- I find good deals there on good backpacking products. The key to getting your gear is to be patient and "trade up" over the years. I spent 3-5 years working on getting my camping gear dialed in. I had a goal dropping the base weight on all my gear, but my budget ...

Re: Windigo to McCargoe June 22-26 -- Thoughts?
This looks like a good plan -- I did this route in reverse 2 years ago with my 17 daughter. Your first day will be hard, but with an early start and plenty of rest stops you will be fine (be sure to take plenty of water out of Windigo as the water sources along this route are pretty limited). If you ...

Re: Family trip planning
Here is a picture of one of the tandem kayaks at Windigo, they also have singles (and canoes). As Ingo mentioned the best bet for the little one is bringing a proper sized life jacket. Your swimming plans might be more realistic if you boat out to Beaver Island for a picnic lunch (you can wade into ...

Re: End to end loop hike
Here is a blog from a hiker who did the loop in 15 days: http://bushwhackingfool.com/2012/02/18/isle-royale-trip-my-original-backpacking-trip-itinerary If you dig into his info, you will find a report for each day's hike, great photos and plenty of useful info. He also details how he resupplied in ...

Re: circumnavegation IR
There is plenty of room at Little Todd for multiple campers (even if every site is full). Like the poster above, when we stayed there (August 2017) we were the only folks there. The beaches at Little Todd would be easy to land a kayak.

Re: Minong and water conditions
We hiked from N. Lake Desor to Washington Creek with 3 liters each. There are a couple of small creeks between Desor and WC that would work for water (don't know how heavy they will be flowing in Sept). You could always drop your packs at the Lake Desor junction and filter at the lake before you ...

Re: NPS to make changes in Windigo
Thanks for sharing -- interesting ideas for Windigo. I did a quick review, need to ponder my response. I took one of the best showers of my life in Windigo, but they sure could use updated facilities!

Re: Flying with a stove
The store at Windigo sells the basic fuel canisters that fit MSR Pocket Rocket type stoves. The canisters are pretty much universal. If you want to see the selection at the store check out this Youtube video from a few years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfD5A6mJgUU I didn't find the prices ...

Ingo, here is a photo I found on Google. I don't know if it is an accurate picture (I've only been on the west side of the island). Can you confirm that this photo is the stairway?
