Re: Queen info update
I did a little digging, and found this information off an RFP for the state of Michigan. Sounds like no construction will occur during season. Bids are due by March of this year. It will be exciting to see the improvements in the years to come... Project Location: Work will be accomplished on the is...

Re: Queen info update
Did I miss something, I thought the only construction on the island right now was the new cabins/store down at Windigo... Can you tell me what’s going on with the rock harbor dock construction? Sounds like a big deal to redirect Queen to DF. Will it affect the Ranger III schedule?

Re: Pontoon boat
Ed, thank you for your thorough response. This is a hypothetical scenario, because it is next summer, so the boat has yet to be purchased. I am looking at 200hp four stoke engines, because the lake I currently live on really requires something at least that powerful. My friend who grew up basically ...

Re: Pontoon boat
I do have VHF radio, handheld. And the boat will have GPS, possibly sonar. Not a quick reaction to the ferry schedule change. This would be next summer. I have boat camped there many times, but never with a pontoon. I know a deep v hull always does better in big seas, I’m just trying to pick the bes...

Pontoon boat
I’m thinking about taking a 25’ pontoon boat over from Grand Portage to Windigo. I plan on having a kicker onboard. I understand that the weather can change in an instant, but if I pick my day, I think it will be ok. Has anyone seen pontoon boats around the island?

Re: Towing in Rock Harbor
I'm definitely going to skip the tow. I might have true it on my own, but with my kids with me, I want to play it safe. The two trip idea might work best. There is plenty to do at Rock Harbor for a couple hours, even just a quick hike up scoville would be nice. I have attended talks in the past with...

Re: Towing in Rock Harbor
After some additional research, I've decided that it would be safer to skip the canoe and kayaks all together. I don't want to spend the time worrying about it. Rather focus on my boys and ensure they have a good time. My dad and I decided that if we can't fit the gear and all the people at once, wh...

Towing in Rock Harbor
I am coming to the island in late June via the Ranger. I am bringing my 17' Thompson boat, and 3 people. We arrive at Rock Harbor Lodge, and plan on taking the Thompson down Rock Harbor to Moskey Basin and camp for 4 days. Then back up to the housekeeping cabins for 4 more days of "luxury"...

Campsite/shelter question
First time poster. I have been coming to IR since I was a child, staying on one of the life lease islands each time. This will be my first time staying elsewhere, which makes me both nervous and excited! Mostly nervous because I will have my two sons (as well as my father) with me this time... I wil...
