Re: Status of flies and mosquitos now?

I would be on the safe side and treat them. The spray lasts a few washes so they will be good for your next trip after the island if bugs end up not being a problem. Better to be safe then sorry.

Re: Todd Harbor/Little Todd Stream

Just wade across. You are so close at that point. Worst case you brave the cold and take your shoes off. Dry them once across and put your warm shoes back on and hike the little bit to camp where you can warm up more.

Re: Feedback on 5 day gear list

I could be thinking of the wrong lightload towels but aren't those a bit large for TP? The ones I saw were marketed as like beach towels. Plus you would have to pack those out. I dont believe they would biodegrade. Again I could be way off base with that. haha. It has been a while since I have seen...

Re: Feedback on 5 day gear list

I’d also drop the extra tablets and the cable ties unless you have a specific purpose for them. Everything else looks pretty on point. You may want more than 1oz of TP. Not every privy will have TP. Sometimes they run out and don’t get refilled right away. Check the temps before you go and reevalua...

Re: Wood Ducks

No, but I have seen quite a bit of other waterfowl (mergansers, geese, loons, goldeneyes, swans, etc).

Woodducks sure are a pretty species and I love seeing them. They are also early migrators, so I think by early fall they maybe are already headed south from the island.

Re: Windigo to Sugar Mt.

Your ideas look good. Huginin cove loop has some interesting historical relics along the way, and the cove itself is a pretty little rocky cove. I might do this the day you arrive. Then days 2 and 3 could be out the Minong until you find the good overlooks and back, and out toward Feldman Lake unti...

Re: First timer to IR any tips on my gear setup would be appreciated

Looks good except for the two stoves. I’d leave the wood one behind. One canister stove is all you need. The island seemed to always be perpetually wet when I was there. Dry wood may be hard to come by.

Re: Waterproof hiking shoes...

Personally I am a fan of lightweight trail runners. They are not waterproof (mostly mesh uppers) and I love them. My feet dont overheat and sweat in them (which means no blisters for me). They also dry out super fast. At one point I was in knee deep muddy water on the island and no waterproof boot w...

they make great maps. It is nice to see a set of the island now. I have a lot of their other maps. They are always accurate and well detailed.
