Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2017 Edition
Probably some nice lightweight baselayers. I have mid and heavy weight and I've found I don't need that warm of a baselayer on June/July trips.

Re: Powdered Peanut Butter
We have been using the Justin's single serve packets. Used to use the Jiff single serve cups. The Justins are much lighter and taste amazing! They have traditional style peanut butter but they also have almond and honey flavors. So good! Not as light as powdered but it'll do in a pinch. http://shop....

Re: Nemo Hornet vs. Big Agnes Fly Creek
Also seconding the Big Agnes brand. I have the copper spur 3p that I share with my husband. It is the best tent. We love the headroom, lightweight, and space inside. Having two doors is clutch for us and ultimately sealed the deal when we were looking for tents. I would check into the copper spur li...

Re: Access to pack on Ranger III
If you are prone to motion sickness, then laying down or napping is not your best move, unless of course the water is flat. One of the best things to do to combat motion sickness is to stay alert, keep your eyes on the horizon and step outside a bit for some fresh air. Motion sickness can be trigge...

Re: Access to pack on Ranger III
The ranger III has a large supply of board and card games you can borrow. Some snacks are a good idea, I believe they also have Dramamine onboard also. Thanks Tightlines! That is pretty neat that they supply games and such. Hopefully the ride wont be too rough! I will probably try to take a nap at ...

Re: Access to pack on Ranger III
Thanks Ingo! I figured that was the case. I will just put them in a plastic meijer sack or something. Lightweight and doubles as a bag to pack out trash throughout the rest of our trip. Any suggestions for what to bring on the boat? Its a long ride so right now I am thinking some motion sickness pil...

Access to pack on Ranger III
Hey all, I was unable to find an answer to this by searching, so I am hoping you guys can help me out. I was wondering if you have access to your pack while en-route to and from the island on the Ranger III? Specifically, I'd like to have access to my camera, snacks, etc. Should I just pack along a ...

Re: LeConte Lodge
Hi, i have been looking at the leconte lodge for some time and just happened accross your post while planning my Isle Royale trip for this August. I called the leconte lodge a month or so ago but this year (2017) was totally booked. I was put on a wait list for July. She said 2018 reservations could...

Re: Itinerary Advice for thesneakymonkey
Here's the link for the water taxi: http://www.rockharborlodge.com/water-taxi . The smaller boat on the right of the picture is the "taxi" (the larger one is the sightseeing boat). Note that it's subject to weather (like much on I.R.), so there are days they will get backed up and be play...

Re: Itinerary Advice for thesneakymonkey
You should book the water taxi through th lodge at Rock Harbor. Do it in advance for the time when the ferry comes in, plus 15-30 minutes. It will take you right to the Hidden Lake dock and there is a trail up to the beginning (or end) of the Greenstone Trail. One warning, the lodge/taxi folks are ...

Re: Itinerary Advice for thesneakymonkey
If you are open to starting at Lane Cove, you can reserve a water taxi to Hidden Lake for when the ferry gets in. You will have time to get to Lane Cove and avoid backtracking over portions of the same trail. Sorry I am new to this. Can you explain this a little more. Are you saying at the beginnin...
