Re: Figure 8 hike
Relatively speaking, Island Mine isn’t that bad. When we did the Feldtmann loop, we did it counter clockwise and spent the first night at Island Mine. It reminds me of any State Park campsite. The biggest difference between it and any other campsite is it’s lack of a water vista. After hiking up the ...

Re: First Timer perhaps 1st week of June 2019
Here’s a trek I’ve done twice because it’s a nice walk without any death marches. If you use the Voyageur, you can do the following: Sat - Grand Portage - Windigo - McCargoe Cove Sun - McCargoe - W. Chickenbone Mon - W. Chickenbone - Moskey Basin Tues - Moskey Basin - Lake Ritchie Wed - Lake Ritchie- ...

Re: First Timer perhaps 1st week of June 2019
In 2005, I brought my 75 year old Scoutmaster to IR. We hiked from Rock Harbor to Daisy Farm and back. Our original trek was more ambitious, but he struggled with the distance and we altered our itinerary. Not really sure what your physical fitness level is, but I would consider doing less hiking ...

Re: First Trip
Good that your planning early. There are lots of helpful folks on this forum. Part of the joy of Isle Royale is just enjoying the scenery and solitude. Hiking too many miles makes you tired and less likely to enjoy the island to it’s fullest. Remember you won’t see everything in one trip. Leave you ...

Awesome report. That trail from Lane Cove to Mt Franklin goes on forever.
Hope all is well in NC.

Re: NPS officially moving forward with introducing new wolves to IRNP
I saw one in 2007 at Daisy Farm.
There was a woman (Black Coffee ?) who posted pictures from two separate trips. She saw 2 near West Chickenbone and one at Siskiwit. It is very cool to see a wolf. Even cooler to get a picture of them and be able to share the image.

I enjoyed your trail report. Don’t ever worry about adding too much info. I think most of the people who read these posts are happy and hungry to read anything about Isle Royale.

Re: NPS officially moving forward with introducing new wolves to IRNP
I’m all for reintroduces wolves to Isle Royale. My only concern is how these new wolves will react to humans. I can’t imagine being a solo hiker and run into a small pack on the trail. That would be scary.

That’s it. My next trip will be via water.
I still need to try the Ranger and a plane ride.
Sounds like my next trip is taking shape.

8/12/18 - My daughter Kari and I drove to St. Paul to collect my Niece Lynn. This would be my 9th trip to IR, Kari’s 5th trip and Lynn’s 1st. Travel was care free until we hit some construction on Hwy 35 near Rush City. Traffic was crawling for several miles. On the way up Hwy 61 along the Northern ...

Re: 1st Time IR Trip 5day/4nite Solo Advice Needed Please
Instead of going from Chickenbone to 3 Mile to Rock Harbor. I would go to Moskey Basin to 3 Mile. Rock Harbor is pretty busy and I would rather spend my last night at 3 Mile instead of RH.

Re: Todd Harbor questions
Thank you both for your responses. Looking forward to exploring Todd Harbor again and trying to find these landmarks. I remember marveling at the view from “Grace Overlook” when we came from Feldtmann Lake back to Windigo. We headed back there in 2014 on a side hiked from Windigo. I guess we didn’t g ...
