Re: What interior lakes would you take in a packraft to fish on?
I'll definitely double check on the sea plane drop off. The whole ability to do this trip depends on being able to be dropped off at Malone Bay day 1. What I've got in mind is a 10 hour drive, getting on a plane, and then hopefully setting up camp at Malone for the night. I saw the barbless ...

Re: What interior lakes would you take in a packraft to fish on?
Since I'd originally posted this in January '19 I did end up buying an alpacaraft mule pack raft and I've been using it on the rivers near where I live. I'm still debating on how to get on the island for a quick fishing trip this spring. I'd like to fly direct from Houghton to Malone Bay and either ...

What interior lakes would you take in a packraft to fish on?
I'm debating on getting a packraft, and part of what I can see using it for would be to go back to the IR and spend some time at an interior lake just fishing out of the packraft and paddling around in general. I like the idea of getting dropped off by boat, having a day hike into an interior lake ...

Re: TR 9-8 to 9-16 2017 Rock Harbor to Windigo with kayking and back.
I can't really take any credit for laying out the over all plan on the trip. My buddy Paul did all of that. The cool things was on our way back to Todd Harbor we ran into 4 guys hiking the trail who had seen a fox walking on our kayaks and got a picture of it they said they'd email us. Definitely ...

Re: first sea kayak trip advice
This is a good read. I'm going on a kayak/hike there in Sept and we're coming into Rock Harbor then around the northeast corner hoping to make it to Todd Harbor or McCargo Cove. Any suggestions or things to look out for there?

Any camera suggestions?
I'll be on a kayaking/hiking trip with it divided around 60/40 this Sept. I'd love to get some great pictures while there. I'm not bringing my cell phone and would like a camera that's rugged, can zoom out some, and at least somewhat water resistant. At the end of the day all I'm going to care is ...

Thoughts on what kayak to use? Thinking about a Hobie Mirage Oasis
I've kayaked on lakes and river, but never open water like what the Isle Royale is surrounded by. This Sept, I'll be there with two guys who've been there before and are looking to relive that great experience from their past. The plan is to do a lot of kayaking and checking out the little islands ...

Re: First timer to the IR and looking for fishing advice
The issue with fly fishing on ISRO is that many places have very little opportunity for back casting, which limits how much water can be covered from shore. This is an issue on many of the interior lakes like Chickenbone, Hatchet, Ritchie, Desor (if there are any game fish still there), etc. A ...

First timer to the IR and looking for fishing advice
Hello everyone, I'm going to be visiting the IR in Sept ish of 2017. I'm going with a couple of other guys who've been there once before, but this will be my first time there. My fishing goals are pretty simple since this isn't a dedicated fishing trip. The idea would be something I get to do maybe ...
