Re: Potawatomi Trail in Pinckney, Mi
Post back a trip report on the High Country Pathway. That is one I haven't done yet. I would like to hear what you think of it.
Will do
Thanks for putting the Potawatomi Trail on my radar -- I don't normally think about backpacking options in the southeast corner of Michigan!
Yep. The ...

Re: Potawatomi Trail in Pinckney, Mi
Posting your video is great, it shows a lot more for others to get an idea of this trail. I'm looking at doing the High Country Pathway in late November, and this was a shakedown hike as I'll have to do a lot of miles daily to finish it in the time I'll have, and a lot less daylight by then.

Potawatomi Trail in Pinckney, Mi
I hiked the Potawatomi Trail in Pinckney, Mi last weekend. Its located north of Ann Arbor, mi and part of the Pinckney Recreation Area. Its my go-to trail for conditioning and its 18 mile length and intermediate terrain make it challenging. Its great in the fall and spring when its cooler out ...

Re: MI-based UL gear cottage industry!
I also second the packing efficiently, which I'm finding has two (enjoyable) dimensions: getting things to fit and strategically distributing gear for a comfortable carry. With less infrastructure, the SWD is less sternly rigid than my other pack (Exos 58, which I now think of as my bear canister ...

Re: MI-based UL gear cottage industry!
Just took a SWD 50L long haul on a 10d island trip. Worked flawlessly. Perfect pack.
Good info on the number of days, thanks! I have a goal of hiking the NCT across the UP with my long haul 50 and there are some sections with not a lot around, meaning potentially needing carrying enough to make ...

Re: MI-based UL gear cottage industry!
Reviving this thread with an endorsement. I used my swd long haul on 2 trips this year and really happy with it. It’s very comfortable and reasonably lightweight at 2.3 lbs. having come from a larger pack it took some experimenting to pack it most efficiently.

No accelerants are permitted on board, which includes any liquid fuel and even esbit type tablets. I had to ship my esbit tabs to IR (another usps process in itself known as ORM-D).

Re: Feldtmann Loop vs Minong
I did the Minong last summer from McCargo to WIndigo. It is preferred in that direction due to the 3 beaver dam crossings on the last 7 miles to Windigo. We did our last miles over those beaver dams and our boots were extra soaked and heavy.. not a great way to start the rest of the trip if goign ...

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2018 Edition
I’ve got a 4 day trip on the NCT in western Michigan in early may. Trail food is the only thing I’m missing. The store in Northville is nearby and normally has a good selection; I’ll make a trip there in a week or 2.
