Re: trail runners?

Great topic. FKT, Ultralight hikers, fast hikers, long distance hikers are popular topic of discussion in the hiking/BP community. Just like most would agree, I am with "Hike your own Hike" as long as what you do is within LNT principles. I used to run and had an ankle injury during a marathon. For ...

Re: TR: 1Sept-6Sept 2017 [RH to Windigo to RH]

Great trip report, but sad to see all the "fails." I can't believe how fast you hike (run). P.S., you are also the first person to use Reddit for a trip report on the forum. Congrats! Thanks! Actually when I see the report or just recall my experience, all I could say is positives. The cons are ...

Re: TR: 1Sept-6Sept 2017 [RH to Windigo to RH]

Just my opinion, but the totally waterproof nature of the glove added to (or probably was responsible for) the water logging of the skin on your hands and fingers. All perspiration and moisture from outside is trapped and has only one place to go, into your skin. I too have the same opinion. I did ...

Re: TR: 1Sept-6Sept 2017 [RH to Windigo to RH]

Those are some heavily saturated feet and hands. Were you wearing nitrile gloves? At least you have some nice weather during daylight hours. I was using a Neoprene gardening gloves(link below) for rain protection. But I kept removing the glove for various reasons(food, phone, etc) so my hands were ...

Re: TR: 1Sept-6Sept 2017 [RH to Windigo to RH]

Thanks-- that is some excellent coverage. I love the moose video! Sorry about the soggy feet. I usually walk in trail runners and dirty girl gaiters (which you might want to check out if you're looking for light and snug: https://dirtygirlgaiters.com/ ). I've learned to use waterproof hiking boots ...

Re: Rock Harbor to Windigo in 2.5 days on Labor Day Weekend - Advice on Itinerary

Thank you everyone here in the forum for all the help in the past couple of months. Got back to Columbus, IN this morning after great adventure at Isle Royale. Was able to manage most of my planned itinerary. About 100+ backpacking miles in total from 1Sept-6Sept, 2017. Backpacked from RH to Windigo ...

Re: Drop off

Sorry for late response. I need the food mail at Windigo store on 3Sept(Sunday) morning. I will pick up the food first thing in the morning on Sunday and start my hike back to RH. I am planning to mail my food(no fuel) from Southern Indiana on Monday evening or Tuesday morning. USPS postage ...

Water sources/Stream in Minong trail

Hello, Any water sources other than inland lakes in Minong trail? Are the creeks shown in NatGeo map reliable source? Trip is first week of Sept.- just couple of days left! I am thinking if I should account 1 mile(half in and half out to get water from inland lakes or Lake Superior) or just manage ...

Lol, glad I asked. Then, I would not hike to Lookout Louise as out & back LL the same day would not be possible to accommodate in my trip schedule. Thanks!

Thanks Ingo and Paul.
I am going to send an email. If not would probably need to carry additional water bottle.
