Re: Smart Watch Found
I meant to discuss it with NPS but forgot all about it until I unpacked it from my little fishing lure belt. I will check with IRNP - thanks.

Smart Watch Found
It's a long shot. I found a fancy little wrist watch at a site at west chickenbone lake. Watch was discovered last week of June. My guess is that it wasn't there very long. If you can describe it exactly, I'll send it to you. Be honest please.

Re: Trailfinding/Navigation (August)
I observed that it is very difficult to 'get lost' while hiking the trails, but that if you do get lost, you can really get lost. My only knowledge of the trails before I went there last week was from this forum. Once you get there, it becomes intuitively obvious. Carried a compass - took it for a ...

Re: TR 5/25-5/30+1 2018 RH 3M MB WCB 3M RH
Over the years I have been asked "Why Isle Royale?" The beauty of the place continues to amaze me. I hope you can go at different tiems of the year to experience it all. Congrats on the pike, my girlfriend caugh her first pike in Ritchie (she eventually caught one that went 44" in Siskiwit!). I am ...

TR 5/25-5/30+1 2018 RH 3M MB WCB 3M RH
Arrived by seaplane and departed ranger station around 6. Filled up our water at the spigot before we took the TT to 3mile. First person I met was quite rude when I first entered 3M - "THIS SPOT IS TAKEN..." put up the tent and got some sleep - 1100 mile drive to get there. 6/26 - headed off to DF ...

Re: June 25-30 plan
Made it. Could not have asked for better weather... except the last - second to last night. Got in RH early to make sure we had a shelter and to be at the plane dock by 830 next morn. Thunder and lightning storm from hell that night. Was "stuck" on island an extra day. Spent all day at dock waiting ...

Re: BUGS!
Arrived on 25th, left on 31st - Supposed to leave on 30th, but got fogged in and left on July 1st (the 31st of June). Bugs not bad at all, some mosquitoes, black flies were unseen - 3 mile, moskey, chickenbone. Lot's of big mayflies at Richie that were quite friendly. Richie had probably most things ...

Re: Shorts vs Pants in June
thanks Ingo, I imagine it's pretty wet in some spots, looks like 3 mile > LR > MCC > LC or Daisy > back to RH, unless we get in early enough to make daisy heading out the first night, I imagine the 'ranger talk' and permit may take a good half hour? But if we get out of RH by 5PM we should make it ...

Re: Shorts vs Pants in June
Found an rei in Ann Arbor. But do I really need to spend another 120 bucks - I'll be eating beans and rice for the rest of the year as it is already.

Re: Shorts vs Pants in June
Been going back and forth over gaitors - never used them. Of course it's too late to order anything. Will they really make a difference? And is there a brick and mortar somewhere in Michigan along the way to the UP? I pass cabelas in Dundee (near Ann Arbor) heading north, but I highly doubt they ...

Re: 2018 Wolf-Moose report
Ha, I thought I would discover people reporting moose sightings here. Is it probable to spot moose along the way? On day 4 heading from MCC to LC - OR Daisy depending on how we're holding up.

Are there any updates on the road conditions? We are heading to Hancock sea plane less than a week away.
Thanks

Re: June fishing inland
I saw a post where someone was asking how to 'pack' a rod. As I was walking through Wallace Enterprises and Fine Goods, I spotted a box of 'noodles' for pool use. These are 2 1/4 inch diameter. It looked to be a perfect rod protector. So for 69 cents I got me one. Cut it just a bit longer than my 2 ...

Re: BUGS!
Ingo, Wbat do you mean by "melt things"? I picked up some deet, pretty strong stuff.
I like the 'wash clothes' in permethrin idea. I'll keep it in my memory banks.
