Re: Paddling/Fishing

2 years ago we did the trip fro McCargoe to Richie Canoe campground(go to the canoe camp verses regular camp worth the short paddle) to Malone. We took our time, but the mile portage to Chickenbone portage was longer than it looked and everything heading to Richie was straight up then tapered down t...

It's a beautiful little spot, great after paddling or hiking all day. The Wash tub, there use to be a video of it on U tube but I can't find the link, this is not where I heard about the wash tub, a fellow boater who needed a hand was helped and repaid us with this knowledge. It starts right after t...

Well another great trip to isle Royale. We left Copper Harbor on the Queen IV and had a great calm flat trip out to Rock Harbor. We unloaded the Canoes and packs and we got set up in a shelter and went to the restaurant for supper. Had a great night sleep and we were on the dock ready to load the Vo...

Re: How is the Paddle from Moskey Basin to Rock Harbor?

Awesome info all, Thank you. I'm looking forward to whatever Mother Nature and the big lake sends our way. Let me be clear, I am not challenging Mother Nature nor Lake Superior in any way, we will just adapt and deal with what is given to us on that day:)

How is the Paddle from Moskey Basin to Rock Harbor?

Going to be there the first week in August and the end of our trip will be with the paddle from Moskey Basin Campground to Rock Harbor. I know it is sheltered a little from the full effects of Lake Superior but the question I have is, will 3 Canoes hugging the west shore or East side of the Island b...

Re: TR: 8/2018 [Canoeing/Fishing - McCargo Cove to Malone Bay]

Type in Sonar Phone from Vexilar. Weighs about 6oz. wifi to your smart phone and you have a portable, chargeable(solar charger needed) depth finder that can hang off of your pack and just drop it in the water and you have instant readings, well until you lock in WiFi. Use it all of the time ice fish...

Re: TR: 8/2018 [Canoeing/Fishing - McCargo Cove to Malone Bay]

We were trolling and jigging, we had to be in 70-90' of water. Jigging was longer between fish. Trolling was about every 5-10 minutes. Having the a phone sonar really helped pin point the trolling depth out of the canoe. We also used 4 oz. drop weights and trolling spoons. That is the plan next year...

TR: 8/2018 [Canoeing/Fishing - McCargo Cove to Malone Bay]

What a trip, we went from 8/18-8/23 Started in McCargo Cove portaged to West Chicken bone where we were greeted by a cow moose in the water. Campsites were full and only one left when we got there. Campers were very nice and let us walk through from the water to our inside site. I did not trust the ...
