Re: Waterproof hiking shoes...
In my opinion I agree with some of the above. I was a firm believer in Asolo boots, they are Italian made and fit my feet! After a few wet slogging hikes they became wet bricks tied to my ankles. Now I wear Merrel Moab ventilators with super feet greenies insoles and DT socks, lightweight gators if ...

Re: Rain Gear?
My jacket is a Marmot Precip as well. I don't tend to hike in it, but it's great to keep the wind and water off once in camp. I just accept getting wet as part of the hiking experience. Re: Water filter
Great topic. Health and safety are always a concern, especially on a hike. The biggest problem is a plugged filter which I have experienced at McCargoe Cove one year, I was using a mini squeeze and only droplets came out not matter how hard I squeezed. I only wore one pair of socks (DT) and two extra pair plus a pair of hot socks. Next time, I will only take one pair on my feet and my hot socks to sleep in, ditch t...

Re: Blisters
Old post but for what its worth I'll add. I use darn tough socks, follow a hiking regimen, and use foot glide. Blisters are the enemy of hiking so I tend to my best tool (feet). If you start to feel a "hot spot" stop immediately! Apply a small patch of duct tape over the area, it adheres w...

TR: 6/9 - 6/15 2019 Rock to Windigo to Rock 7 days
Isle Royale 2019 6/9 – 6/15 Hello all! I could write a book on all the details, hiking experiences, and planning that went into this trip. Instead, I wrote a short summary and a more detailed description to share. Summary Day 1: Rock Harbor to McCargoe Cove Approx. 15 miles. Just to get our trail l...
