Re: CPAP Machine
I've made several trips to the island and lugged along my portable CPAP (Transcend Mini Auto-PAP), an AC charger, and 4 multi-night batteries (no humidifier). I have to say it is much easier to carry when we make it a canoe trip, but even backpacking with it hasn't been a show-stopper. Either way, I...

Re: Purchasing a season pass
I was on the island last week, and purchased a season pass at Rock Harbor when I was getting our itinerary setup. No problems, and I was able to pay with my credit card. The other 3 in my party had paid online, and we were asked to show a receipt for those payments.

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2015 edition
I'm thinking a new Platypus 3L Big Zip, with a Sawyer Mini as an inline & gravity filter. Replaces my current gravity setup to save a little weight/bulk.

You rent them at the small marina office by the boat docks in Rock Harbor. If no one is currently there, someone at the store can call them... the two are both run by the lodge.

Re: Best area(East) to see moose/wolves?
Hidden Lake is usually considered a good spot because of the salt lick nearby. Scoville Point is often good, at least in the spring when cows with young calves like to be near Rock Harbor. I've also heard that the pond to the left of the trail from Three Mile to Mt Franklin is good near dawn or suns...

Re: Water Taxi
I've always made a reservation as there are only a couple water taxis and they do get booked up. With a reservation before we get there, we've sometimes had to wait a few hours for the taxi to return from another drop off, but usually manage to get out of Rock Harbor the same day we arrive. Without ...

Re: Water Taxi
They are owned & operated by the concessionaire, Forever Resorts, as is the Rock Harbor Lodge & Wendigo store. The group I usually go with has a limited amount of vacation time, and it has to include travel to/from the island. For us the decision to use the taxi or not depends on how far out...

Re: Water Taxi
It varies by how many people are riding, distance to destination, and can change each year. For the "freshest" cost, your best bet is to look it up at http://www.rockharborlodge.com/water-taxiMattC wrote:How much is the water taxi to Chippewa Harbor from RH? I want to take it next year.

Re: Feedback on first-time itinerary?
Hi Anne Marie, I think your mileages look fine if your boots are broken in and you are practiced at carrying your loaded packs! Because it all looks achievable, the only advice I have is to carry plenty of water on the ridge and realize that the final section of trail to/from Lane Cove seems MUCH lo...
