Re: Mt. Franklin Fire - many east end trails, Lane Cove & Three Mile closed
This is an eye roller for any folks that were stuck at Daisy with no way to get back to RH. "As of 8/14/22 a Rock Harbor shuttle is being operated by Rock Harbor Lodge. The approved rate is $30 one way with a minimum passenger count set at 20." What exactly is the definition of profiteeri...

I'm intrigued. Is this loss of appetite only after long days of hiking? Does it persist on "zero days" too?

I think after wife #4 or 5 I'd have probably given up.

I prefer not to stress over getting a shelter, and am confident that if we truly needed one for safety reasons, someone would share.

Re: TR: 6/18 - 6/25, 2022 [Paddling] [Inland lake loop]
Lots of interesting insights. A few comments: 1. Siskiwit definitely warrants respect. It tends to be calm in the early morning. Doesn't sound like you were that fortunate. 2. We did the Intermediate to Richie portage in the opposite direction last year and don't remember it being difficult (and it ...

Re: Water Filtering
I don't use a water purifier or Aquatabs. My main concerns are Giardia and bacteria, and water filters take care of those just fine.

Re: Chickenbone algae bloom?
Speaking of algae blooms, after our experience last July, I'm inclined to take the official pronouncements with a grain of salt (okay, maybe more aggressive electrolyte replacement). Paddling and portaging our way from McCargoe, we had planned to spend a couple of nights at the Lake Richie canoe cam...

Re: Water Filtering
Trying to wrap my head around the T-shirt method. Is this a clean T-shirt (now soiled and wet)? A dirty T-shirt (now more soiled and wet and less available as an emergency back-up)? A T-shirt that is currently being worn (some acrobatics involved)? A T-shirt currently being worn by an unsuspecting c...

Re: Ryan Island Views
Having paddled past Ryan Island several times on the way to somewhere else, I wouldn't suggest that you go out of your way to see it. It's just an island in a good-sized lake.

Re: Washington Creek Campground preferred sites
August is high season. You might want to bring a tent in case all the shelters are full.

Re: are we low priority?
Not necessarily. There could be exceptions for unanticipated health/safety/weather issues.
