Re: Wolf troubles.

Regardless, it is & was always bad advice. I'd seen fox on the island casing tents / camps multiple times on Isle Royale. Like the rumors for years that were ignored of Fox stealing boots until it was proven. Those fox are about as close to being domesticated as you can be without living in my ...

Re: Wolf troubles.

Food should have "always" been hung when in the back-country or in a tent anywhere on the island / anytime not staying in a shelter. This is a best-practice in the field and should have not been ignored the past decades.

Re: Foot trails and water routes exceeds expectations

BBBike, OpenTopoMap, OpenStreetMap, AcmeMapper, GPSFileDepot, and a couple others all offer free digital maps, tools and resources.

Someone should make a sticky post with all the links / resources everyone has gathered up over the years

Re: Foot trails and water routes exceeds expectations

If you need digital map resources for trip planning & way points just do a post search. A few folks have contributed some great resources that pretty much cover all your needs I expect

Yeah that's what they looked like & it makes sense they'd have a "stock" of them around to use temporarily until real NPS storage boxes can be installed

Re: Packraft Trip Report / June 8th - 22nd, 2024

I have a pair of Microraft XL, a friend has an adventure x2 & a barracuda r2 pro, another friend has a Tulo & another friend with a XL.

I have almost 7 full weeks of use on both my XLs, have beat the hell out of them, zero complaints.

Re: Wolf troubles.

Yea, surely not NPS food storage boxes. Likely something they had in storage locally to pull out that would solve the problem temporarily until the real ones come in and can get installed

Re: New Food Storage Guidelines in Effect

As of 2005, there were 540 moose, the lowest recorded, and a relatively high population of 30 wolves. Although we have an increase in hikers, there's clearly not a direct cause & effect relationship.

Re: New Food Storage Guidelines in Effect

If people had more common sense and would have been hanging food bags as best practice this would be less an issue I feel.

Re: Wolf troubles.

I believe the problem may partially stem from East pack denning particularly close to RH this year.
