Re: Seasonal Rangers
I'm hoping the effect on our trip will be minimal because we're usually in and out before the store & showers open on the west end. Break an ankle inland though or offtrail in the backcountry and you might have a problem.

Re: Snowshoe Tracks????
Must have... those don't appear to be from a 4 legged creature. Interesting there appears to be two sets of different tracks there. They converge behind that small tree then vanish until the top of the picture where it looks like the two pair are walking one in front of the other the rest of the way ...

Re: Ranger snacks?
No, we (we being the return customers / regulars) should all continue to enjoy what we love. I think its the busy season that will bear the brunt of the potential low staffing problems. Last time i rode first boat out of GP, there weren't even any NPS staff / rangers at the dock in Windigo when we ...

Re: Ranger snacks?
I suspect this year is doing to be a cluster fuck on the island with Orange Mans staffing freezes & cuts. Don't get hurt in the back country unless you're planning on living there until it heals or the wolves find you.

Re: Moosewatch 2025 Dates
It's not that bad most of the time but the July/Aug temps & bugs wear on you more than the chilly temps of May, or at least for me. We started in Moskey basin, hiked all the way to Wood lake & back.

Re: Moosewatch 2025 Dates
Thanks, that's superhelpful! I'm already looking forward to the bucket/ladle shower.
I'm also curious about your preference for a walking staff. Is part of it that then you have a hand free for navigational aids?

Re: Moosewatch 2025 Dates
My Moosewatch application was accepted! (The admissions committee must have let their guard down.) It's for trip #1, which means I'll be on the first boat over to IR from Grand Portage. I'm hoping to keep a trip journal (without too much moose gore on it) to post here afterward.
In the meantime ...

Re: Staying at the lodge
