Re: Queen Held Up on Isle Royale by Storms

I'm a little confused by the article. I just arrived back in Copper Harbor last Friday (sept 25th) via the Queen. Not sure how they could be stuck there for 5 days, unless they did a turn around back to IR after dropping us off. I know that Monday Sept 28th was supposed to be the last day that the Q...

Re: Unexpected Consequence of Using This Forum

This was a nice story to read. John, you're a stand up guy. It's nice to know that I have such good "neighbors" For those not familiar with the greater Chicago land area. La Fox Illinois is NOT right around the corner from O'Hare Airport. It's probably 40+ miles or so........each way. Add ...

Re: Trout Fishing on the island

I have had success fishing trout in Washington Creek near Windigo. Try the mouth of the creek where it flows into Washington Harbor and follow the creek up, there are some good holes in there (depending on the water levels). Nothing special, but I was able to catch some small Brookies in there with ...

Re: New way to defend/treat against Giardia

Completely cleared Daisy Farm. Thank God it didn't happen in the kayak. Would have blown out the bottom of the boat and the resultant tsunami would have destroyed Rock Harbor Light and the Edison Fishery. Completely cleared Daisy Farm??? If this was during peak season, that is extremly impressive :...

Re: Chippewa Harbor via Lake Superior by canoe

mmmmmmm.... not sure I would atempt this one in a open canoe, that's just me. That's a lot of open water with very little protection if any and very few places to land if you have to. The weather would have to be just about perfect.

Re: A few miscellaneous questions.....

Less Paul, I can answer a few of these for you. 1. You will still need to register your intinerary once you arrive at RH. You will have a brief orrientation at the dock from the rangers then register. I believe it is cash only for your $4/day/person, but double check when you make your reservations ...

Please no cell phones. The last thing I want to hear on the trail is someone saying "can you hear me now? How about now?"

That is why I go to IR

Mink

I have also seen mink at the Richie Canoe site. A few years back we observed several turtles climb up the rocks and lay their eggs, only to have them dug up by the mink shortly after. Also observed him munch on a northern pike along the shore close to camp. Not sure if he cought the fish or what. He...
