Re: How's our planned route look?
I was quite unsure about the first day especially since we'll be getting off the ferry around noon with very little sleep and possibly seasick so this is super helpful, thank you.

Re: LighterPack final shakedown
Sounds like my best bet is to just take a full 8oz can from the beginning and call it good.
Twig stoves are allowed, solid fuel burning stoves stoves aren't though according to here (not sure what the difference is though):

Re: LighterPack final shakedown
Of the two trips I've used it on so far, one was desert camping in Utah and the other was in Michigan along the Manistee River, and the tent & stakes did just fine in both. You do however need to be cautious of pushing them into the ground too hard before making sure it's a soft enough spot (and no ...

How's our planned route look?
Me and 4 friends head to Isle Royale in 2 days and I think our itinerary is finalized but figured I'd post on here to see about any last-minute changes. Here's the CalTopo of our planned route:

Interesting, what stove do you have? I usually get 12-14 boils from a 4oz can

Re: LighterPack final shakedown
I'll actually be boiling 3x a day (breakfast, coffee, dinner), with 7 full days, 1 day with just dinner, and 1 day with just breakfast and coffee, so need 24 boils, which an 8oz canister might fall short of. However I just called the Rock Harbor Lodge and they said even though the Windigo Store isn ...

Re: LighterPack final shakedown
I've used the X-Mid for 2 one-nighter trips and I absolutely love it so far. It's crazy how easy it is to set up, the inner is actually pretty big for a 1p tent, & the vestibules are huge. My friend & I waited out a hail storm with high winds and a quick, shitty pitch and it held up very well. Only ...

Gear recs for fishing noob?
I'm heading to IR this Friday for a 9-day, 100-mile trip and my friends plan on fishing a lot, and even though I hardly have experience fishing I do want to bring a pole & lure(s) to fish as well. I have no clue what to bring though. We're doing a loop from Rock Harbor to Windigo via the Greenstone ...

LighterPack final shakedown
I leave for a 9-day, 100-mile trip on Friday and would appreciate a final shakedown of my LighterPack here:

I posted this a few weeks ago but I've done a couple shakedown trips since and made some changes so am now looking to finalize everything. Thanks!

Re: Mud baskets for trekking poles?
Ya I have small baskets & large. I've heard it's really annoying having them basically suctioning to the mud nonstop but I wonder if drilling a couple holes in them would help with that.

Mud baskets for trekking poles?
I've just started using trekking poles this year and I love them, but I haven't used the mud baskets they came with yet. I'll be hiking from Rock Harbor to Windigo & back via both the Greenstone Ridge & Minong Ridge in the beginning of June. Should I bring my mud baskets? Or would just the carbide ...

Re: Could y'all take a look at my LighterPack?
Have you decided yet whether you are going solo or with a group of buddies? You can lighten up on your camp kitchen in particular if you can share the water filtration, the cookset, the stove, and some of the first aid items. If it were me, and I was solo, I would bring the whole deck of cards but ...

An ENTIRE OUNCE of Dr Bronner's?!
Haha my friend introduced me to ultralight a few months ago and I got hooked, it sometimes looks ridiculous keeping track of something like that but I've enjoyed it and can definitely see the value in scrutinizing basically every item in my backpack, and ...

Re: Need help finalizing itinerary
Got it, thanks! Also I already shortened the route a little since posting this. I did take out the Huginnin Cove, and shortened the route around Chickenbone Lake after leaving McCargoe Cove. So this is the breakdown of miles per day, I think it should be just the right amount. We'll be spending a ...

Re: Need help finalizing itinerary
Also this is the absolute longest we would do, I'm still thinking about shortening it in some sections (like removing the Huginnin Cove loop) but I'm confident we'll be able to complete this.
