Thanks for this information. I’m feeling pretty good about the tent.

Re: Durston X Mid 1

Hi, I bought an X-Mid 2 silpoly but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Any single wall tent will have issues with condensation. My last shelters have been TarpTent single-walls and condensation has always been my biggest complaint. The benefit to both silpoly and dyneema is that they won't "wet ...

Durston X Mid 1

Hello! I have heard lots of talk about the Durston X Mid tents. I’m looking into buying a new tent and this is one I’m considering. Does anyone have opinions about getting the dyneema fabric tent or the polysil tent? I know the dyneema is lighter, which is a plus, but is condensation a big issue ...

Re: Itinerary Question

We did the Feldtmann loop a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. Siskiwit Bay is a fantastic campsite right on the bay. Rainbow Cove near Feldtmann Lake is a great place to have dinner and watch the sunset. The fire tower on the ridge is also a highlight- good lunch spot. Enjoy!

Re: Itinerary Question

Yes, the Greenstone, especially the west end, is much easier than the Minong. I think the west end of the Greenstone is the easiest trail I've hiked on the island.

I stayed at Island Mine once, in mid-May. It was fine. Definitely better than what I've heard from others -- the fire pits are a nice ...

Re: Itinerary Question

By "northern route" I assume you mean the Minong Ridge trail? That's a pretty serious trail, especially in the direction you'll be traveling (where you have ~13 miles on the first day, made harder by a heavier pack). The upside would be tons of spectacular views.

"Southern route" is less well ...

Itinerary Question

Hello! I am planning to hike from Windigo to Rock Harbor this Summer. I have 9 days allotted for the hike. I like to stop and draw and paint as I hike and camp. If I don’t hike along the Greenstone, would the northern route or southern route be preferable? Does anyone have any favorite campsites and ...

Re: Any Thoughts About this Itinerary?

Thanks. I have been wondering about that. When I went last time I arrived on the boat, and the ranger shared a lot of helpful information during the orientation. I’ll get all my questions together and ask them before we start hiking.

Thank you! We are arriving by seaplane, will we still get the orientation?

Re: Any Thoughts About this Itinerary?

Thanks! I’ll try to find out if there are algae blooms anywhere before we head out there.

Re: Any Thoughts About this Itinerary?

Thank you for the descriptions. Probably will save a trip to Island mine site to do another time. I have been wondering if there is a reliable water source along the hike from Washington Creek to the S Lake Desor camp site. Sounds like nothing we can count on? Was hoping water would be available at ...

Any Thoughts About this Itinerary?

We are planning a 6 night trip. Taking the seaplane to Windigo, our plans are, first night Windigo, then South Lake Desor, Hatchet Lake, West Chickenbone, Daisy Farm, last night at Rock Harbor. How hard is the hiking from Windigo to South Lake Desor? Anyone have any suggestions for the trip?
