Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Harbor

There is a small chance this trail will be changed to decommission the section that connects the lake Richie trail to the SE lake Richie portage access (the trail would travel from CH to lake Richie portage point). It seems like they will not close this trail but you may want to do it asap. It’s on m ...

Re: July 4th, How Busy Is It?

I'm planning my return for next year 6/28 to 7/6. Did anyone do the east side this year? How busy was it first week of July?

Re: wilderness stewardship plan overview

Alternative C: would mean "... implementing a camping reservation system ...", literally recreation.gov. yes, I read somewhere in the full document that receation.gov would be used. I was a bit on the edge about the reservation system at first, but then I remembered I plan all my trips nearly a ...

wilderness stewardship plan overview

I just ran into the the finalized Wilderness stewardship plan that was released in Aug 2024: Plan A: The “no-action alternative” describes existing management practices as described in the 1998 GMP and as implemented through the Superintendent’s Compendium. Under alternative A, the NPS would conti ...

Super panoramic Photos from July

I wanted to share some unique images I took July. I brought a Pixel 7 pro, and the feature is called photosphere, and It is not available anymore. When I go back July 2025, I'll take some in Ozaagaateng and minong. (I'll take specific requests)

Foot trails and water routes exceeds expectations

I’ve skimmed through most of the text in this book and it really is a complete source of information about the entire island. For $17 you can get a signed copy before official publication at Michigan trail maps. The only thing that was a bit disappointing is that non of the digital maps were i ...

Large Clearing At McCargoe Cove

I noticed a large freshly cut clearing on the trail out of McCargoe Cove campsite towards Chickenbone Lake. We were in a pretty big hurry to beat the afternoon heat so I did not take a picture. I was wondering if anyone else saw it and had any Idea why they cut down such a large area to the dirt. It ...

Re: how have crowds been so far? And rookies

It was my first visit ever this year 7-14 to 7-20 (I will be going back next year with my wife). All of the shelters and most of the tent sites on the Rock Harbor trail were full every night. A group doing the inland lakes said the campsites were fairly empty, and another group finishing up the ...

Re: Water Filtering

Does anyone have any updated information on this? I leave for my first trip to the Isle at the end of the month. I tend to be the person that over prepares but the pack is getting heavy for a 7 day trip and I would prefer not to have to bring a form of chemical treatment in addition to my platypus ...

Re: Submissions for PICTURE OF THE WEEK go here

Thanks to the advice from Ingo, red leg and others, my group’s first morning was at Moskey Basin. Here is the sunrise from shelter number 2. Thankfully I married a professional photographer, and I will have this picture printed on the largest size appropriate for a cellphone picture.
