Re: Climate Change
It was a mild winter overall up north. Very little ice cover on the Great Lake s this year. Hope it's just an anomaly.

Climate Change
Just an observation (not wishing to start a conflict about global warming, etc.) Just returned from two weeks on Isle Royale (first boater) and I noticed that I have never seen the following this early in the season since my first trip in 1976: 1. Mosquitos and black flies out (usually don't come ...

In talking to the ranger at Rock a few days ago, it was his understanding on of those involved "flipped" to an investigator.

Re: Big news for grand portage outbound ferries...
Just got back from the dock. What a mess! Old parking area is torn up and temporary parking area has painted lines. Doesn't look like there will be enough parking. Can't get close to the dock, so you'll have to carry your gear through the construction area.

Re: GPS Waypoints
I was recent given a Garmin GPSmap 60Cx. I've been using a 2000 vintage ETrex Summit. Apparently, I can't copy all the ISRO waypoints I've used over the years to the "new" Garmin. Can't use MapSource with Windows 10 either. Anyway, the link to the GPS waypoints file does not work. Is there an ...

I just don't know. So many choices. $.30 is a lot of money and I have to choose wisely!

Re: Early Season transport
I know that George Desort got an early boat, but he had to apply as he was doing the 50 Lakes; One Island documentary at the time. If you go by private boat, be very careful. There are no commercial vessels licensed to carry passengers to ISRO other than the Queen, Ranger, or Voyageur. If a ...

Leave May 9
Return May 24
Traveling by Kayak
Drop off: Haven't decided
Pick up: Daisy Farm
Very loose itinerary this year. Might drop off at Malone, Chippewa, or Daisy Farm. Will move from time to time on no set schedule. I'll be paddling an 18', Red, Current Designs Isle kayak.

Re: Circumnavigate Kayak Questions
I've circumnavigated the island, although in stages. I'm pretty experienced and have done some sections solo, but no way would I try to do the Windigo to Blake point solo. I don't care how good you are. There are just too few places to bail if a problem should arise. You need a partner. You need to ...

Re: First Boat weather 2018
Only 12 people on the first boat. No first boat cake this year, but they had sliders for breakfast. Water was dead calm and some skim ice on the surface. Dropped off 10 Moose Watch volunteers at Windigo. Rangers had to move an ice flow away from the dock. Of course, we were met by Ranger Val. Since ...

Re: Weather may 16-20, 2018
Enjoyed running into you at Chippewa Harbor. You should have hiked over to Malone Bay! Fresh fish dinners four nights in a row. I'm home now making the dinners I didn't eat there. Hooked up with four fishermen from Duluth. I caught a 28" pike and they caught trout and pike every day. Shelter 5 was ...
