Re: Private Boat/Chartering a boat
With the exception of Rock Harbor Lodge fishing operation, I was the last charter operation to the island. I quit roughly 10 years ago and have never reapplied for a permit. If there was a charter I am certain it could operate, for fishing only, provided they could put together a satisfactory covid ...

Re: Private Boat/Chartering a boat
No commercial use authorizations allow passenger transportation, they are specifically limited to the activity applied for, (fishing, diving, backcounty guide and so on). Dave Williams does not transport people to the park, he uses the ferries, they have had a permit for guiding kayak trips. The ...

Re: Sea kayak
Only suggestion I have is to hire somebody to take you. I'm sure you can find somebody in Grand Marais who might do it. Maybe even in Copper Harbor from the Michigan side. I have no idea what the Park Service would say. But this is America, and there's no stopping folks from making a buck.
What ...

Re: Voyaguer & Sea Hunter Schedule 2020
There were some updates that needed to be done and were not completed when the 2020 schedule was built as a result of park people on vacation delaying the release of our rates and schedules. We expected to have this done last fall since we sent the proposed schedule in on Oct. 21st but the park didn ...

Re: Pre-memorial day fuel availability - Windigo
We always have extra in our office in Grand Portage. Depending on how much you might need or type, we normally just give it away at no charge. Just let us know and we can coordinate it.

Re: Schedule Help
I don't know if it is possible using the Ranger without hanging around and waiting for it to run again. It would be quicker to just turn around and hike back to Rock Harbor. Copper Harbor is a far better choice and if planned properly you overnight after arriving in Rock Harbor from Windigo and go ...

Re: Should wolves be added to IR?
I think we all know the answer to that, of course not, nor do I think there is a real possibility of a wolf attack. The relocation effort has expanded well beyond ethics at this point with private funding, tugging at the heartstrings to beg, yes beg, for money to save poor suffering starving wolves ...

No, we stopped several years ago. It ran it's course as far as promoting awareness to newcomers. Our goal will continue to be met as long as the park is maintaining a presence at the show.

Re: Thunder Bay (YQT) as Entry Point
We have quite a few people do this each year and it seems to be getting more popular. Rental cars have not been a problem in the past just make sure you tell them that you will be entering the US.I have brought rental cars from the US into Canada several times with no issues. Border crossing is ...

Re: Government Shutdown
I forget exactly how long it was but 6-7 years ago when the gov shut down at the end of September we were informed by the park that we needed to get everyone off of the island. We were not allowed to bring visitors either. This was of minimal impact since the Voyageur only had a handful of days left ...

GPIR Lines awarded ferry service contract
We are pleased to annouce that we have the honor of being awarded the ferry service contract from Grand Portage, MN. This is great news for us and we would like to thank everyone for your support over the 50+ years we have making the trips to the island. As many of our passengers know I spend a fair ...
