Re: What Else Do I Need?

Spare batteries for your headlamps. - I also carry a small AM/FM/Wx radio that takes AA batteries...same as my headlamp so spare batteries fit both. - Depending on the on/off switch on your headlamp, you may want to take a battery out of the lamp while it's in your pack...prevents your lamp from ...

Re: Aug 25th - Sept 5th

Great report Don: I had to upgrade my thermarest to a thicker model, and that still wan't quite enough, so I bought a closed cell foam pad from Walmart for about $6 and cut two 12"-14" lengths from it. I bring those along with my thermarest, and place the foam pads above & below by hips (I'm a side ...

Re: Trip Report - Aug 30 to Sept 3

Great trip report! No moose sightings is a bummer; My son & I saw them in 2002, and I promised our scout troop we'd see them in 2004...not! This summer, my daughter and I saw a cow & calf at the RH campgrounds.

Thanks for the TR Nate...the ill fitting boots can be killer on toes! We had 2 scout leaders lose their toenails in '04.

Re: cell phones

I'm with you Don for carrying a phone for emergencies...I have a few elderly parents/inlaws at home. I carry a cell to check in with home...and Mom worries about whichever kid is with me... I do make it a 'covert' call if I can get a signal...making a point not to bother fellow hikers.

Isle Royale iGoogle Themes

For anyone that uses an iGoogle home page, I located 3 Isle Royale themes that include pics of the island. Search the themes directory using "isle royale". Nice pics!

Re: Restaurant in Copper Harbor area??

The Tamarack is good food for a good price, our scouts on our last trip loved their pasties and broasted chicken. Update on the Tamarack Inn after my August 10th & 11 visits there (taken from my trip report): August 10-We had dinner at the Tamarack Inn, and while the food was very good as I ...
