Re: TR- 8/9-17, 2019 by kayak Tobin and Rock Harbor

Thanks goodness for packrafters! I'm sorry about the knee but glad that it didn't keep you from having an outstanding trip. Can you tell us more about this collapsible kayak of yours? (When I was a kid, my father's standing joke reply to questions about what he wanted for Xmas/bday/father's day was:...

Re: TR: 5/27 - 5/31 2019 [Rock Harbor trail there-and-back]

On the camera + poles conundrum: I have no first hand experience, since my "photography" consists in brandishing an iPhone and hoping for the best, but I've seen other bakcpackers use a clever looking gizmo that's like a baby bjorn harness, only what it holds snugly to your chest is not an infant bu...

Re: Itinerary Review

I've hiked at elevation in the west and also at IRNP. On the basis of your dossier, I'd happily wager that you'll be fine with the mileages you're contemplating (but yes please report back!). This include the 18.8 mile last day. The last 6 or so miles into Washington Creek on the Greenstone Ridge Tr...

THanks for the report! Was the welcoming committee in Tobin Harbor really the last moose you saw?

Re: TR: Rock Harbor, Malone Bay, Richie,Moskey, Rock Harbor 8/3-8/9 2019

Thanks for the report -- your party sounds admirably dauntless! (I think it takes being made of sterner stuff than I'm made of to take on some of IR's portages.) Your mention of the Malone Bay bathtub intrigues me. I'm hoping that camp will be on my itinerary next time. Can you divulge more about th...

Thanks for the great -- I also applaud length and detail! -- report on a very moose-rich adventure! The Greenstone Ridge Trail gets a lot more interesting on the Rock Harbor side of the Chickenbones--when you do come back, you can confirm this!

What a wonderful trip and report! Thanks for taking the time to write it up so well. You can post more pictures in the replies. (I'll horrify you by posting a picture of slug in my current laundry room --- thanks to my weird job, I'm living in Skylonda, CA, this year.)

me also: a book, usually a paperback mystery novel. (I wonder if this cluster of "book[s]" answers reflects some sort of selection effect: people who frequent these forums when they could just be FaceGramming instead are people for whom words are a natural medium?)

What an awesome trip and a lucky son! I also like having a layover day at the end to decompress and deepen my appreciation of oatmeal. Out of curiosity, have you gauged how much less the stripped-down MREs weigh compared to their original versions?

Re: Itinerary Advice

Your account of your background makes it sound like you can handle the mileages contemplated--- and because you're not locked into your itinerary and have done your homework, you can revise as the trip unfolds, if you discover reasons to. And I like the idea of doing the WCB-Hatchet-Todd Harbor -McC...
