Re: First time back country camper. What to bring to Isle Royale?

https://lighterpack.com/r/3aj3lu here is my list if you are curious. If it is marked as 0lbs its because it is in my husbands pack. We always hike together and are able to share gear accordingly. A few of the items are out of date and not accurate anymore. But you can get the jist of the types of it...

Re: First time back country camper. What to bring to Isle Royale?

MREs are heavy and honestly not that flavor full. There are plenty of better dehydrated foods out there. Check out packit gourmet. They are great. You wont need 6 per person for a 3-4 day trip. Typically hikers will eat them for dinner and have a "no cook" meal for lunch (think tortillas, trail mix,...

Re: A couple quick questions (toilet paper and showers)

Could you stash a real towel, soap, and a change of clothes (and whatever else you need to celebrate at trip's end) at the Rock Harbor Lodge while you're on your walk? Yes, from my research I have found you can in fact store gear (no fuel) at Rock harbor. There are not lockers available, but they d...

Re: A couple quick questions (toilet paper and showers)

Since I was getting some conflicting answers I asked the NPS directly via email. I got an answer almost immediately! I took the opportunity to ask about the bug situation as well. Here's their answer: "The cost of the showers is $6 and is for a 5 minute shower and includes a bar of soap and use of a...

Re: A couple quick questions (toilet paper and showers)

We dont typically carry soap and when we do we certainly dont carry enough to shower with. We just have no need for it. We do carry hand sani for cleaning hands, wet wipes for the quick wipe down at night, and we dont have dishes (no cook in pot). We do carry a small microfiber towel but not like a ...

A couple quick questions (toilet paper and showers)

1)Can I expect to find TP in the vault style toilets on the island or not? I will be packing TP but not too sure on how much (Our trip will be 6d/5n and two people). We will be staying at 3Mile, MB, WCB, DF, and RH. 2)We were planning to spring for a shower at the end of our trip in Rock harbor. I'v...

I love packit gourmet and they have small condiments and such to add to your order if needed. Their meals are fantastic as well.

wish you could buy it online. That would make life easy. Good deal though for anyone going with more than 1 person for an extended trip.

Probably some nice lightweight baselayers. I have mid and heavy weight and I've found I don't need that warm of a baselayer on June/July trips.

Re: Powdered Peanut Butter

We have been using the Justin's single serve packets. Used to use the Jiff single serve cups. The Justins are much lighter and taste amazing! They have traditional style peanut butter but they also have almond and honey flavors. So good! Not as light as powdered but it'll do in a pinch. http://shop....

Re: Nemo Hornet vs. Big Agnes Fly Creek

Also seconding the Big Agnes brand. I have the copper spur 3p that I share with my husband. It is the best tent. We love the headroom, lightweight, and space inside. Having two doors is clutch for us and ultimately sealed the deal when we were looking for tents. I would check into the copper spur li...

Re: Access to pack on Ranger III

If you are prone to motion sickness, then laying down or napping is not your best move, unless of course the water is flat. One of the best things to do to combat motion sickness is to stay alert, keep your eyes on the horizon and step outside a bit for some fresh air. Motion sickness can be trigge...
