Re: TR: 7/29 – 8/7, 2018 [RH-DF-MB-CH-MCC-TH-NLD-WC]

:D ... We immediately made a mistake and followed a false path to the right. We should’ve continued straight, I believe. We were able to cross the damn, despite knee deep water and shoe sucking mud. We reached the woods edge and knew we were no longer on trail...  Been there, done tha...

Re: Minong and water conditions

Little todd to Washington creek will be quite a day! We were recently on the minong. We post all our hiking vids on our channel. You can find the links below. The section from Little todd to Washington will be in parts 6&7 (on trip#2) but we have the entire minong on the series if you wish to watch....

More calorie dense than a freeze dried dinner :).

Arguably tastier too

Re: 10 days / 9 night food plan

Don’t get me wrong, RR is great stuff. It’s so light. I just ate it for like every backpacking dinner for over a year. I needed variety this time. Lol. The noodles are bulky but that’ll go down as your days pass. We crammed all our food for 2 ppl and 10 days into 3 bags. One was half full. By mid t...

Re: BUGS!

Got off the island on Tuesday after 10 days. The bug situation is pretty good. There’s some skeeters out but nothing too bad. No flies. Just thought I’d update this thread for anyone heading to the island soon.

Re: Info on campsites ?

You’ll be fine. Don’t stress about the minor details. It’ll work itself out. There’s always a spot or someone willing to let you share a spot.

Just double up on a tent site. It’s no big deal. You’ll find a spot.

Re: Three people evacuated

Those Gatorade chews are legit awesome on the trail. They make a great sweet treat loaded with electrolytes on the ridge. I put a package of them in my fanny pack and we each would eat some on the hot ridges. Also we added “ mio sport” this year instead of Gatorade powder and it worked great. Adding...

Re: Best Time of Year to Visit - May or August?

I’ll echo the above that - There’s mud in August too! We’ve only been in August (2x now). Both times were fun. You can get away from the crowds. No issues with campsites but don’t expect a shelter every night.

Re: NPS to make changes in Windigo

I thought the showers and washer/dryers were nicer in Windigo than in rock harbor. They are bigger and more of them. My best shower on the island was in Windigo

Re: Finding moose

Last year we were hard pressed to see one in 6 days. This year we saw a TON in 10days. The difference is we woke up earlier (6:00am) and hiked further away from crowds (aka daisy). The most we saw were in Windigo area.

Re: First timer - wondering how difficulty compares to Jordan River Valley in L.P.?

Keep the packweights light (under 30 if possible) and you’ll be fine. I will echo the comments above that the trails are much more rugged than the JRP though. Take your time and work in an extra day if you can.

Re: 10 days / 9 night food plan

Yea our schedule wouldn’t work with a resupply. Also we just got back and it worked out great to just carry it all (I don’t like being forced to maintain a schedule —meeting a boat or making it to a post office on time). The food plan worked out for us really well. 14 days would be another challenge...
