Re: Thoughts with travel due to COVID 19

I think the park will make that decision for you. If we are still under shelter in place orders then traveling unnecessarily is not a good idea. I don’t believe the park will open if we (Michigan) are still under that order.

Re: Picking a route? need help?

Arriving RH on the Ranger III on July 10. Assuming it gets there at 3 and I can get going before 4, will I have enough daylight to get to DF? I'd hate to waste a night at 3 Mile. Sure you can make it. It is definitely doable if you have some hiking experience. The trail is not super easy but I woul...

Re: First time trip in July 5 nights itinerary help pls

^ did that exact route torpified described on our first trip to the island. I have it linked below if you want to see what those campspots look like in video. That route has a little bit of everything the island has to offer. Keep your stay limits in mind and you will be fine. You could also toss la...

Re: Beginner trip for 12 and 9 year old boys

Sounds like you have some pretty cool adventurous kids. I would say doing a "shakedown" hike back home before heading to the island will help you plan what mileage would be good for the kiddos. Personally If I was you, I would boat or plane into Rock harbor and maybe hit daisy farm , 3 mil...

Re: Find groups?

Ok thanks, I will look into joining those as well. Thinking about a trip out there in the late August or early September. Wondering if that is a good time frame to avoid black flies and will still have decent weather. Do most people that want to traverse the island goto Windigo and hike to Rock Har...

I dont think there is a dedicated site for IR meetups. I am sure you could post here! There is also a facebook group and a reddit group that you could try posting in.

Re: Delicate question

socks: I bring 1 pair for hiking and 1 pair for sleeping on shorter trips. On longer trips ( 6+ days) I bring 2 pair for hiking 1 pair for sleeping.
(not applicable to IR but when winter camping - double those amounts)

underwear: 1 for hiking, 1 clean for at camp/sleeping
