Re: Where to see a Moose?

Rise and shine early and you can see them just about anywhere. Washington creek is also a pretty ***almost*** guaranteed spot.

Re: Greenstone Vs Minong

Personally I enjoyed the minong a lot. The greenstone is nice but reminds me a lot of a regular michigan trail. Minong offers a little more challenge. Some epic views. And better campsites IMO.

Re: Water filter

Just got back. Only used the sawyer squeeze. I brought some aquamira and never opened it. I just wanted it just in case the Rangers said I NEEDED to use it. No issues with just using the sawyer. Won’t be bringing the aquamira again.

Re: What to buy with windfall at REI?

I’d stock up on some darn tough socks. Purchase a couple pairs of new trail runners. And then go hog wild on all kinds of things I definitely don’t need haha.

Re: Fire ban

Yes it includes the grills. Just got off the island. Rangers were walking campsite to campsite letting people know when it happened. Didn’t see anyone breaking the rules after the ban. However, someone sadly thought it was ok to have a fire in one of the tent spots on feltdmann. Burnt earth and stic...

7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

Well. We did it. We finally made it back to the island. Full trip report incoming, for now I’m posting from Soumi restaurant after disembarking the seaplane. The island was wild and fun as usual. Can’t wait to share more, but ope! Our food just arrived. Mmmm

Re: late July canoe trip: packs, sleeping bag

I’d go with the warmer sleeping bag for sure. We went with 50 deg bags once in July and were pushing the comfort level for a couple really cold nights. Especially if you have the space with the canoe.

Anyone just get back?

Alright who’s just coming back from the island? What’s your weather/bug report?? Let’s hear it. Headed up shortly and just mostly curious after pouring over report after report.

You can see how we set the tarp up in this video. It’s right at the very beginning:

Re: Tents in Shelters

You can set up a tent inside. We’ve not done it but our tent is not freestanding so it can’t be set up without staking. We do however carry a small tarp for a wind break. It’s got enough tie outs to make it work even without nails or screws.

Re: rerouting of Feldtmann Loop trail N of Siskiwit Bay

Also, the first three miles or so leaving Siskiwit towards Feldtmann is waist to chest deep weeds. Leave that camp with your rain gear on and your bug spray refreshed. :) Haha! Been there done that on the minong. Pretty sure I had some shoulder high that summer haha!! Love it. Thanks for the report.

Re: How much TP do you pack?

Two people. Two double rolls. Remove the cardboard roll and squish into a ziplock. 10 days. We had some leftover but not a lot. Helps if (as a lady) you use a kula cloth or equivalent Vs tp for pee.
