Great trip report! I liked the route you chose.
Where exactly is the beaver takeover between Hatchet and Todd Harbor? Is it on the Minong Ridge Trail or the Hatchet Lake Trail?

Re: Sandals on Greenstone Ridge
...I plan to get off the Voyageur on the west end of the island around 12-1pm and then hike to Desor (~11mi). How is the terrain on this stretch? Is this too ambitious of a plan? Although my preference is to go slow and take in the surrounding(s)... That stretch of the Greenstone Trail from Windigo...

Re: Cheapest path to Malone bay?
One thing that came up when we were talking is private charters to the island. Is there a page to find this? Link to thread on "Private Boat/Chartering a Boat" ---> https://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4280 The two ferry/water taxi options to access Malone Bay are... 1. Vo...

I apologize to the administrators for being a pain---but I'd really appreciate it if they could either tell me what else I can try or (try again to) send a "reset password" link to the email address I've listed on my profile page! Manually sent information to your email address on record.

Re: TR 5/19-5/23, 2021 [Hiking]: Windigo-S. Desor-W. Chickenbone-Threemile-Rock Harbor
Thanks for the great trip report, which included my favorite section, "Things I learned". Interesting to learn that there were near-capacity crowds at campsites so early in the season. The beaver are apparently making a mess of a lot of the low trail sections. Do you use tarp poles when se...

Re: TR (5/31-6/7, 2021): Ishpeming, Feldtmann---and some commuting
There’s a bit of an intermission after the trail descends from Feldtmann ridge----a long, basically flat, essentially straight wooded stretch. The monotonous bit couldn’t have been more than 5 miles, but it felt like it took forever to cross. That long strait section of trail is an old road bed tha...

Re: Storing extra gear at the lodge while we backpack
Are there storage lockers on the Island? No, there are no storage lockers on the Island. The concession operation at Rock Harbor and Windigo does offer a service to store gear for a fee. The box of gear cannot contain stove fuel or food. Contact the Rock Harbor Lodge office for more information. Li...

For those that are taking the seaplane, they have a page on their website that describes how to obtain fuel for the 2021 camping season... Re: Trekking pole tips?
I use a rubber tip on my single Tracks Sherlock hiking staff. The rubber tip reduces the noise the staff makes on the trail and prevents it from scarring rocks and terrain. Works well all around but can slip a bit on smooth wet rock; hiking boots will also slip under similar conditions.

...I’ve found taking a soapless dip in Lake Superior a couple times a trip does wonders... ^This is what I do. Or a bucket bath away from water sources. From the 2004 Isle Royale Leave No Trace pamphlet (pg. 18)... "If bathing, only use soap if necessary and use it sparingly. Get wet, lather u...

Re: 1st IR trip - June 19-27, 2021
Very nice itinerary. The route covers a wide variety of what the island has to offer. You will get to travel portions of the islands' backbones (Minong, Greenstone, and Feldtmann Ridges) along with staying at Lake Superior and inland lake campsites. And no back-tracking!
