Re: First Time, Feldtmann Loop, Early August

That itinerary is very easily done based on your experience. It is usually the one I recommend for first timers to give them a cross section of the island while having more of a "wilderness" feeling than the east side of the island can have at times. - The first day out has only a short cl...

Bull moose in the spring on the Minong Ridge

I've been working on finalizing some journals of past trips and came upon these pictures that I thought I'd share. These were taken on May 16, 2009 on a solo trip. It was between Lake Desor North and Washington Creek on one of the many ridges. This moose looked in better shape than than most I have ...

Walking to Blake Point videos

Hey everyone! For Christmas I took a break from updating the book to edit some videos to share with you. I am not sure they are 100% complete and I may change some of them in the future. For now, I have posted four videos of my walk to Blake Point in 2014 from Merritt Lane campground. They are split...

Re: Shelters

There are 2 picnic tables; 1 at the dock and 1 at the tent site. The one at the tent site is staked down with a chain. I'm guessing to keep people from moving it to the dock.

Re: Mike Tremblay Ebook

The program is only for windows. I do have a MAC package. I will mail you a CD with the complete book and all of the large pictures and full size maps on it. The PDF files link to the larger pictures and maps. You can also order just the Basic Package and get the PDF file, but it does not have the l...

Sylvania Wilderness

For the first time since 2006 we will not be going to the island this year :( . It's just become too hard for my Dad and, as long as he wants to keep paddling, I am going to take him :D . So, we have decided to go to Sylvania Wilderness this year. It has easier portages and less elevation changes th...

Thanks for the report! A great example of being flexible and making the most of it. You really cannot go wrong anywhere on the island.

Re: Minong Trail day hikes from Hugginin Cove, thoughts?

The first of the west section is mostly inland until starting on high ridges.
The first part of the East Huginnin trail is along the north Shore and gorgeous.
The campground is usually very peaceful and not busy at all

Re: Planned trip 7/3-7/13

Head net for sure in July. It is ambitious for sure, but it can be done on young legs. I would never do it at this point in my life, but have done similar in my 20's - 40's. Make sure you do take time and enjoy the trail and views. On my earlier trips to the island I missed a lot by getting from pla...

Yep, Intermediate. Nice serene place to stay, but I wouldn't stay for more than 1 night.
You're up.

Re: Guess What Campground? Chapter II.

Wow, 2 experts and no, no. Not Merritt as Merritt has a nice dock. It took me many years to get to Merritt due to the location, but I have been there twice now and plan on going back again. Magnificent views, great wilderness feeling and nice paddling in the area. If you go there, make sure you plan...
