Re: Windigo Store
In the 2012 Greenstone it says the store closes 9-10. I don't know if they open it for boats after that or not. Maybe someone who has been there later in the year can help you. Richard

Re: Isle Royale books
Please keep the ISRO book titles coming. I have ordered 5 more and will be ordering 5 more next week. That should hold me over till I get to the island in September. I am also interested in the ships and shipwrecks of ISRO. The one advantage of having a 6000lb backpack is that I can bring my referen...

Re: Need a Compass
Or you can use the always reliable method of if lost, run whichever way the Goshawks chace you. Richard Ps You are not lost if there is no one else along to tattle or to ask directions from. Your only doing some unplanned off trail travel

Re: Plannng a trip in mid-September does point of arrival ma
I too am planning on being on the island the first 3 weeks in September. If on one of your stops you see a man and his son on a 26ft sailboat, Come on down and say hello, we don't care if your son is off taking pictures. On the other hand if you want to avoid us our trip is posted on the ISRO calend...

Isle Royale books
So far I have bought 5 nice books about Isle Royale. They include The Diary of an Island School Teacher,The Superior Way, Once upon an Isle, A Good Boat Speaks for Itself, and Superior Wilderness The Natural History of Isle Royale. These are a good start but can anyone tell me what books they would ...

Re: Great Lake Warriors on The History Channel
Are you still considering the Carver (?) or the like? I am looking for a second backup motor for the sailboat or next week I will go for the 25ft Carver Monterey. I like the idea of the sailboat but the extra speed and power would be nice if weather changes quickly. Which ever boat I chose I will b...

Re: Great Lake Warriors on The History Channel
I agree. Some wrecks are ok for diving but some deserve to rest in peace. And to use it just to drive rating on a new show is a shame. However I hope that none of that weather plans a early Sept visit this year. I can just think about those 30 foot waves washing right over my 26 foot boat. Richard

Re: Off-Trail Hiking to Hay Bay
If you are making a round trip from the iron mine trail and will be returning the same way it might be to your advantage to mark your trail. If the park service dosen't want you to :( you can always remove the marks on your way back. Good luck with your hike and hope to see you later this fall. :D R...

On your trip this September are you bushwacking into Hay Bay campground or are you counting that as a water access campground? RichardBy the time September rolls around, I will have visited all of the sites on the island that do not need a water vessel to access them.

Re: Sudden wolf population collapse solved: Mine pit acciden
This reminds me of the tv show Merrcatt manor. As long as they were just brown fuzzy animals they were funny. But after watching the same ones over a couple seasons it was sad when she died. And it was worse watching her group fall apart after her death. I hope that the wolfs on ISRO have a chance t...

Re: Gales of September
Thanks again for the help. I used to be an over the road truck driver(1/2 a million accident free miles) and a private pilot (3 years accident free) in a previous life so I believe in being prepared for the weather but not fearing the weather. What is going to happen is going to happen and worring a...
