Early June Itinerary--Some questions

Finalizing my June trip itinerary and have a few questions. The first and last few days are low-miles, while there are some pretty hefty days in the middle. I'm trying to hit camps I haven't stayed at before, so if there are some I should "pass" on let me know. Assuming Chicken Bone is a c...

Re: Season Pass

The pass is a no-brainer for me. I plan to go on two week-long trips this year, one in May/June and another in early September. Even if I went solo both trips, the pass more than pays for itself, and with a partner or two all the better.

Re: Powdered Peanut Butter

I actually put creamy PB in a sturdy ziploc bag and then cut the very corner off so it's basically like a piping bag that bakers use. Then I usually pinch the end off and use another ziploc for storage just so it doesn't get squished out in my pack on accident. It is fairly light and I can then qui...

Re: Powdered Peanut Butter

The PB2 is a great product in a pinch. In the normal world I add it to my smoothies. On the trail I've been using the Justin's nut butter single-packs as a nice midday pick-me-up. Beats rehydrated every time, except it's heavier. My first backpacking trip was a solo jaunt down the Superior Hiking Tr...

Re: Nemo Hornet vs. Big Agnes Fly Creek

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Big Agnes was my "gut" feeling so I'm glad to see folks standing behind the brand.

Haven't considered a tarp-tent yet, but interesting that BA offers that too. Could be a smart choice especially for the Eastern half of IR when I'll be mostly in shelters.

Nemo Hornet vs. Big Agnes Fly Creek

Finally decided it's time for a new tent. I started backpacking a few years ago and started off with the REI Passage 1, then Passage 2 tent. They are indestructible and have served me well, but at roughly 4-5 lbs they're both too heavy and too big for what I'm wanting. I've narrowed my search down t...

Actually really sad to see that. I'm expecting the bugs will probably bloom early this year.

Re: Itinerary feedback Mid June

Sounds like if you're looking at 12 days you have a little cushion. I've only done the eastern half of the island but Moskey to Rock Harbor would not be a fun day, and could be impossible if that's your "go home" day. I did Moskey to 3-Mile and it was tough, but not awful. The trail can be...

Re: Proposed user fee increase

I'm a backpacker who generally goes solo for 5 days at a time, twice a year, and I'm not upset about the increase.
