Re: another imported trip report

torpified,

Excellent hypotheses, though I sense just a hint of cynicism.

You must have to really restrain yourself when grading papers.

Re: another imported trip report

Nice report. I hadn't realized there were so many "moldering privies" on the island.

Re: Accessible Camping

A few more thoughts/possibilities to consider: 1. Regarding ferry transport from the MN side, getting your son aboard the Voyageur II could be a bit tricky. It involves climbing up a few narrow steps, turning 90 degrees down a narrow walkway, then going through a narrow door that has a spring mechan...

Re: Backpacking with a basecamp in the middle

Instead of taking a water taxi from RH to Chippewa, you could overnight in RH your first night, then take the Voyageur to Chippewa the next day. Less expensive, but just be sure to check the Voyageur schedule carefully. They overnight in RH every other day, except for Fridays.

Wolf encounter at Washington Creek Campground

Just before dawn on the morning of August 30, we were awoken by the sound of loud, low squawking coming from about 50 yards up Washington Creek from campsite 15. It lasted about 20 seconds, and sounded like a sandhill crane. About 2 minutes later, we heard the footfalls of a large, panting canine as...

Windigo base camping

A few observations after having just spent 4 days/3 nights at Windigo/Washington Creek. This was my wife's first trip to the island, and she wasn't up for a backcountry trip. It was a very different experience than previous paddling trips I'd done on the inland lakes. Briefly: 1. Much more chill tha...

Re: Pregnant on Isle Royale

As a physician who provides obstetric care my advice is simple: don't travel to Isle Royale while you are pregnant. It's just not worth the risk. Carrying heavy loads (if that is part of your plan) while pregnant is not advisable, and prompt evacuation is often not feasible. There will be other year...

Re: Mt. Franklin Fire - many east end trails, Lane Cove & Three Mile closed

This is an eye roller for any folks that were stuck at Daisy with no way to get back to RH. "As of 8/14/22 a Rock Harbor shuttle is being operated by Rock Harbor Lodge. The approved rate is $30 one way with a minimum passenger count set at 20." What exactly is the definition of profiteeri...

Re: TR: July 2022 [CB-W; Hatchet; S Desor; IM]

I'm intrigued. Is this loss of appetite only after long days of hiking? Does it persist on "zero days" too?
