Re: 1936 Calendar

So this is my favorite month. It may be because it is spring and summer exploration is right around the corner
or that I am a sucker when it comes to fascinating fish pictures.

Re: My inland kayak route

I post this to let you know that you can paddle back to Rock Harbor and avoid the 2nd taxi. Maybe you're not as cheap as I am. :D Arriving before noon would also allow enough time to paddle to either Chippewa Harbor or Birch/McCargo Cove. From Snug Harbor Chippewa Harbor is about 12 miles and Birch...

Re: Itinerary Advice Please [Paddling]

Looks like an packrafting adventure that is a beast on its own. Hard to comment on such an itinerary without such packrafting experience.
Looking forward to post trip comments though

The Hillside in Houghton. Small seating on main drag half way up the hill on the right. Has the best stick to the ribs breakfast for good price.
and for the nervous fellow wanting to get across bridge.... in case it is lifted/stuck and can't lower for traffic for hours.... the Kaleva in Hanncock.

Re: Timing Question

I remember 2008 Redwings vs Penguins. Was at Chickenbone West Campsite on a canoe trip with my Father. We made a deal with neighboring campsite to trade their radio for the evenings game for some fresh Walleye. The game was not found in English, but was fairly certain there was a French Channel cove...

Re: 1936 Calendar

Its my grandmother's 94th birthday today. Yep 2-22-22. Anyways, NHL stadium Series Wild game broadcast had a segment on 94 year old Mark Sertich still strapping the skates on and playing pick-up games. So that hit a cord.... Hoping I will be 94 years old someday visiting Isle Royale and a young outd...

Re: Isle Royale Trip Planner Spreadsheet

john, thanks for the planning tool. I am a nerd when it comes to planning and staging and any new toy makes the effort that much more enjoyable.

Is there any way to change the effective portage rate constant? I would like to change speed accordingly to my pace. Jason

Re: Dream Trip

What a trip! Curious about your resupply at Windigo for the upcoming seven backpacking nights. Purchase at Windigo store or Voyager Post? Fishing Plans? And I just want to twist your arm on going a little further west from Five Fingers as Pickerel Cover and Birch Island are also possibilities. 16. M...

Re: 1936 Calendar

I have to know for sure now as it is a unique photo and as said, no camping is currently allowed on islands. Google Earth photo of Northern spur of Ryan Island doesn't fully qualify either way.... IR February - Ryan Island Earth.jpg I do know next time I am paddling on Siskiwit a circumnavigation wi...

Re: 1936 Calendar

Tom wrote:... "That's a mighty big tent."
So this Ryan Island tent is the largest tent on the largest island in the largest lake in the largest island in the largest lake in North America.

No apologies....I couldn't resist.
I feel like I was set up on that one!

Re: 1936 Calendar

The picture that caught my attention was the Ryan Island. The island has passed my peripheral vision on many occasions. I never really have observed with a discerning look before, but I swear that Ryan Island is larger than that shown in picture. I am probably wrong. I do not have a personal picture...

Re: September Canoe Trip

I find that you are in a midst of a dilemma between routes and the unpredictability of safe water travel. The tough part is the route selection. I usually select a route that is feasible in the time frame available less a few days dedicated for weather related layovers. I, myself, would not hesitate...

Re: Fishing Potential Questions

Is this the one you are referring to? Yes, that's the one. Well, that gives me even more incentive to try those lakes off the beaten path and report back my results. Please, if you do fish Dustin Lake (IRNPS suggests that there are walleye present), let us in on the verdict. I have been on the shor...
