Re: What Food Is Best?
Then for lunch, I have typically used Cliff bars, but I don't know if there are better options. I'm not opposed to having other food for lunch, but what have you all used that has worked for you? I just really want to be prepared on our first backpacking trip! :) I just saw this, the infamous cliff...

Re: What Food Is Best?
So I went for six days with my 15 yo daughter in Kayaks. My daughter is a very picky eater, and I am one who doesnt care for the standard backpacking prepared meals. She referred to our trip as the "Pasta and Paddling tour" for our food options (Picky eating kid right?). We were very heavi...

Re: Platypus GravityWorks 4.0 Filter
So I dont own the platy, but I used the Sawyer gravity filter and used it to great success on the island. Awfully nice to just hang it and let it to its job while you get to do whatever else is important (cook lunch!) I could be wrong, but I strongly suspect that the sawyer, the platy and the MSR gr...

Re: Tent for 3, or individual?
For two people I really like the Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3, by that name or the Ibex name it can be had generally for around $100 if you bargin hunt. Used this with my daughter on our trip to the isle earlier this year. Packed the way I carry it (minimal stakes and tieouts) it weighs in at 5lbs 1...

Re: Most photographic areas for Astro/Landscape/Wildlife Photography
Moskey is high on my list, a wonderful little area. Moose show up in the bog area by the trail, and are failry easy to photograph. Hidden lake by tobin harbor is another one where you will often see moose, and is well regarded as a gem of a photo spot. Lane cove and belle isle (if you have a boat) a...

Re: How much fuel to bring?
Canister was an older Coleman peak 1 design, pretty standard really Alcohol was a photon stove with only a few jets used in a Sterno Inferno (I LOVE THIS SETUP). I hope to do a decent write up on the sterno inferno at some point and its use with alcohol stoves. Its a bit of a game changer for alcoho...

Re: house boats
Not quite true bobcat, Ranger will transport boats of various size depending upon availability. You will have to check options/limitations with the Ranger though. We were talking to a guy at moskey who had his 16ft aluminum boat brought over on the Ranger. Not sure how a houseboat/pontoon type setup...

Re: How much fuel to bring?
We recently went to the isle with two people, 6 days, two stoves, with two fuel types. One canister stove, one alcohol stove. I'm partial to hot meals, we probably averaged 2.5 hot meals a day, plus coffee in the morning and hot chocolate in the evening. Add in hot water for some bathing, and dish w...
