Hey Nick,
You said Island Mine was in the bottom two for campsites. What's the other one?

Re: First Trip Memories
My first trip was in 2005. Mostly good memories: Watching the Northern Lights at the VII marina, Meeting John and Tricia, Seeing 5 moose including the pair just above E. Chickenbone (up close, I mean within 25 feet), Meeting Matt & Erika, swimming in Desor, shower at Windigo, steaks at the Beave...

Re: First-timer planning for next summer
Check out our trip report "Kari and Wally's trip report". We traveled to the island at the end of August and did the Feltmann Loop. You've gotten a lot of info in this thread already so I won't repeat it. It's a good idea that you are starting to plan the trip already, because you'll be be...

Re: Malone Bay September 6th-14th
I witnessed a guy pull a good sized (2 foot +) fish out of Feltmann Lake this year and saw a guy with fish at Chickenbone in 2006.

Re: Wolves vs Moose Showdown
Why wouldn't the wolves view us as a potential meal? I've come into a camp completely exhausted and would have been easy pickings. We prepare foods that smell appealing, We sit on rocks and gaze lazily at the beauty in front of us. We are smaller than the moose. There are lots of single hikers and o...

John & Tricia,
Thanks for the awesome TR and pics. I hope to make it to Malone some day. Your pictures just confirms the reasons why it's on my list of places to visit. You are still my number one source for IR answers. Thanks.

Re: Kari and Wally trip report
I'll book earlier next year! Thimbleberries everywhere once you got off the Greenstone. There were also mosquitos, something I really never had to deal with on previous trips.

Kari and Wally trip report
I went to book this year’s Isle Royale trip only to find out the Voyageur II was full for the day I wanted to leave. I looked at the trip again, readjusted the days and called to book passage again on the Voyageur. This time, the date coming home was full. UGH! Instead of spending 5 nights and 6 day...

Re: food drop off
I tried to send myself a package and it wasn't there when I got to Windigo. It came back to me via the US Mail about a week later. I have left a small stuff sack of food at Rock Harbor at the Ranger Station. I also saw a duffle bag left in a shelter at Windigo. The note said we could use the shelter...
