Re: Artist in Residence
RogerPass54, thats quite the story, so many years and then get the call and can not make it. I had a similar experience, not the AIR. It was hard to say no. What would have been worse where to have been selected and then the virus.......You are spot on about the advanced degrees, also there are a fe...

Re: The Wolves of Isle Royale by David Mech
I bought that book at little store at IR on my first trip to IR as young man in the early 70's. David Mech has a brand new book out called Wolf Island with forewrd by Rolf Peterson about his early years on IR study of the wolfs. I just picked it up yesterday, as soon as I am done with new book about...

Re: Wood Ducks
sneakymonkey, those videos are awesome. You are so lucky to have that in your back yard. We are hoping that we will have some young ones with the pair of wood ducks that are on our local lake. Here along the central coast of California it is not real common to see them, but they are around if you kn...

Re: Wood Ducks
Yes they are but to quote the illustrious poet Billy Gibbons "woman go crazy for a sharp dressed man" These ducks have shown up on a local lake with some females and I have been capturing images of them as they go about their daily lives. Fingers are crossed that they will produce a clutc...

Re: Hiker evacuated from IR
Nice short history of the USCG Midwest Ed. I was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and spent part of my time in on the USCGC Woodrush (WLB-407) and the USCGC Mesquite (WLB-305) at the time both homeported in Duluth. The USCG is first and foremost a rescue service but at different times i...

Re: IR announces further openings 6/23/20
Closure of the Minong may be minor got a bad feeling about this virus rearing it’s ugly head again this park opening may be short lived. Hopefully not but the signs are not good, as a person with a September seaplane reservation it sucks but you have to look at the big picture and save lives. I hop...

Re: MSR Fuel Canister on seaplane?
Yon can not take fuel canisters on plane assuming plane will be allowed to fly which I doubt and the store does sell them, but since the store along with all other concessions services are closed for the 2020 season it is a moot point. See the IR website https://www.nps.gov/isro/planyourvisit/condit...

Re: June '11 Feldtman Loop
torpified, Like you i totally agree with park, ferries, concessions closed. Just read the letter from the seaplanes which is holding up flights but think they may be able to fly in later in the season. I do not see that happening.Unless i missed something the NPS says the park is closed for the seas...

Re: Isle Royale National Park Closed for 2020
I think its a good idea to keep closed until this virus is figured out, if just to keep all the folks who keep everything going and working, Rangers, ferry personnel, concessionaires, etc. safe and out of harms way. Yes being on IR is a great way to social distance until you have to share shelter in...
