Re: Water Treatment
......There's so much fresh water on Isle Royale that I personally don't worry too much about needing tablets or UV. Can you elaborate? Do you mean you think the water is very good quality from lakes/streams/Superior within IR? From reading this and other threads it sounds like getting water for fi...

Re: 2016 Isle Royale solo by packraft
I'd love to see some photos of your setup, if you are able to post them. I've been considering an Alpacka raft for some time now.

Re: 8 day/7 night round trip of IR?
I would recommend using those "long" days on the Greenstone, going east from Windigo. Tom's alternate plan is a good one.

Re: Copper Harbor Lodging/Restaraunts
Lake Fanny Hooe & Fort Wilkins are nice campgrounds. I prefer Fort Wilkins. When I went in July 2002 the campgrounds were pretty empty & we had the had them to ourselves. Now, in part because of the popularity of the new(ish) mountain bike trails, they fill up rather quickly. I can only imag...

Re: Newbie trip
If deciding between the two & terrain isn't an issue, I'd go with the Minong. The views are great. Greenstone is a canopy of trees with some good views peppered in.

Re: Water Treatment
I've used both a Pur filter pump & a Sawyer squeeze on the island with success. I did not feel any additional treatment was necessary. Had I been in a "desperate" situation like Midwest Ed posed, I would filter & then boil. There's so much fresh water on Isle Royale that I personal...

Re: Novice Backpacker in search of a Solid Meal Plan:-)
My food bag often has dried fruit, trail mix/gorp, beef jerky, ClifBars/ granola bars, Mountain House meals, Lipton Cup o' Soups, kimchi flavored ramen noodles, instant potatoes, instant oatmeal, a little hot cider and drink mix (to mix it up), fruit snacks, & Knorr sides. On occasion I'll take ...

Re: Freep Film Festival Double Feature
Both films were good. Fifty Lakes was different than I expected, but I still enjoyed it immensely. There were many gasps in the crowd with the scenery, especially the night/ northern lights scenes. The Q&A afterwards took 30-45 minutes, to my best guess. Between the film & that she found out...

Freep Film Festival Double Feature
Besides me, who was there Sunday 4/3 at the DIA to see the double feature? I'm curious about your thoughts on the films, Q&A with the panel, et cetera.

Re: September Trip Plans
This is sort of what I was planning. I also have two zero mile days planned. I may have to adjust my schedule though as I am unsure if the ferries continue to run that late in the season : Daisy Farm - Day 1 - 8 MI Minong Mine - Day 2 - 10 MI Little Todd Harbour - Day 3 - 11 MI Huginnin Cove - Day ...
