Re: Comfort Items

This is great. I've been thinking about that tarp as a windbreak and it might happen. I've used my rainfly that way before. I didn't think those cabins are available until the store opens. Who knows, we might just sneak into one. Oh who am I fooling? I love the Washington Creek view. fonix I'm going...

Re: Comfort Items

Great ideas. I'll definitely bring extra camera stuff, extra running shoes (it's spring and they will soak), possibly a hammock, which then precludes the cot. The shower sounds fun but I will bathe in the big lake.

Comfort Items

I've always packed or paddled on the island, but in a couple weeks (May 10) I'm going to visit the island with some friends and our plan is to base camp at Windigo and enjoy some trail running (if we want) everyday. I was just posting our trip itinerary and wrote that I'm looking forward to being ab...

Nice footage. Must be the same moose we saw that morning. She didn't travel far that day.

Re: Minong westbound, first boat, May 14-18

Good point, but I hope those moose appreciate my efforts. I sent them on a much more scenic route. I also hope they figure out to follow the pink ribbons in the fire-damaged area.

Re: May 14 Mid-island run

Thanks Midwest Ed. I remember reading those, as well as the magazine article about the ranger and his brother who did Rock Harbor to Windigo. Both are admirable times and runs. I think if I were to do it I would run Rock Harbor to Windigo as opposed to Eric's route to keep the logistics simpler. It'...

Re: VII in Grand Portage and the Office is open

Mike: Not sure of the Captain's name, nice guy and Don rode along. Ranger Val was in Windigo when we got back there, but no one was there yet when we arrived. There were patches of snow but that was it and no snow or ice in McCargoe. The stream crossing by Little Todd was evil, pure evil. Poles or a...

May 14 Mid-island run

We got off the first boat at McCargoe and changed into our running clothes. We later did the Minong and I'll share about that soon, but here are some pictures and narrative of our run. Hope you enjoy. http://kevinlangton.blogspot.com/2014/0 ... oyale.html

Will do. We're hoping to play on the Minong but we're very flexible. We'll go where we can.
