I wasn't aware that Lake Siskiwit had a high Mercury level. Those big fatty Lake Trout always get tossed back into the lake for reproduction if landed in my canoe.
One meal a month is usually the guideline for high mercury/old fish if you are pregnant or young.

Re: Fishing Potential Questions
Likewise on Lake Whittlesey Walleye. Siskiwit Lake Trout will be in the shallows in May and are easier to catch. There was a spreadsheet that provided a fish survey for all I.R. Lakes at one time. I could not find when I searched NPS website now though. I have a copy on my old crashed computer, but ...

Re: Novice Kayaker - Tobin Harbor?
I have paddled a canoe over 5000+ miles and have canoed half way around Isle Royale several times. That being said about my experience on the water, I have never kayaked and would never have my first kayaking experience on Lake Superior Waters. I could be wrong, but I have been told you can get in a...

Re: Most mercury in Superior from atmosphere
This is especially a concern for the fish population intended for consumption. When ever I fish a particular lake and plan on several shore lunches, I attempt to do some research on that lake. Minnesota offers fish consumption warnings for most Northern Lakes, but I have yet to find any for Isle Roy...

Re: Minnesota Omni Theatre "Great Lakes"
Just did 5 minute research on "Mysteries of the Great Lakes".
Looks like I am late to the party as initial release was 2008. Oh well, will still go see in always impressive Omni theatre.

Minnesota Omni Theatre "Great Lakes"
Just sitting here watching Vikings Pregame shows and the Minnesota Science Museum Omni Theatre commercial presented a showing of the Great Lakes. The showing will continue trough early March. I plan to go see and would be surprised if Isle Royale is not showcased in documentary. How could it not be,...

Re: May Weather & Hope
This website provides the closest data in the region. I suppose one could identify a similar lake and pattern within this data that correlates to an Isle Royale Lake and go from
there.

Re: May Weather & Hope
I remember 2010 Spring thaw was a "cabin fever" buster - the lakes in Northern Minnesota (BWCA) were ice free in early April. Ever Since, I cling on to the hope of another similar spring. I don't recall an El nino pattern being the cause, just a freak year. So this year with the El nino, I...

Re: 1st timer Itinerary
Excitement, rounding the corner to 2016 Isle Royale Trips... I am easy, any day on Isle Royale is a good use of a day. That being said, if I had all of your campgrounds on a list to visit, I would : Day 1 - Arrive to Rock Harbor on the Queen and hike to Lane Cove Day 2 - Lane Cove to McCargoe Cove (...
