Re: Short trip Isle Royale 6-29-14; need help from past visi
Hello Brewer bob, hope your adventure was what you had anticipated it to be. I wanted to tell you I have also hiked the island and the smokies. I hiked up over mt. Leconte all the way thru to Grienbrier in 6 days. Loved it, but in a way I find them both to be comparable. There are trails on the isla...

Rangers with guns
I have visited the island many times over the last 10 years, and this last year I ran into a ranger "cop" with a pistol. I do not remember in years past rangers carrying. Is there something we should know about? I understand the chance of a remote island having visitors that could cause pr...

There are a lot of stray dogs though, be careful they are abandoned there and left to starve till kind people stop and try to...

Re: Visitor perception of "private" areas on Isle Royale?
I think it is horrible that people think they can bully for what they want whenever they want it. How do you deal with these select few that carry these big attitudes with their big boats. I have been in dock areas on the island and been sitting on the dock sunset watching, and totally gotten snubbe...

Re: Trekking Poles
I always bring 2 poles. Many different uses if not for walking, we have used them to suport a tarp in shelters when storms blow up, have to use your imagination but it works! It is also nice to have them for walking where it is slippery or very muddy. I use simple walmart trekking poles from the cam...
